Report from Arthur Smith....

Kilbarchan Athletic Club had done well to qualify for the Scottish Finals in 5 of the ten age groups and at the Kelvin Hall last weekend; they surpassed expectations by winning in two categories and medalling in the other three.

If top billing has to go to anyone, it has to be Holly Belch who led the under 20 women’s team to victory with 3 individual wins. Holly won the 60m in a club record 8.11 seconds, set a Personal Best 59.81s in winning the 400m and also won a close 60m Hurdles in 9.27s.

There was great support from Emma Pettigrew who was 2nd in the Long Jump with a PB of 5.09m and 2 equal seconds, the High Jump 1.40m and the 200m in 28.27s. Michelle Bell won the 800m in a PB of 2 minutes 18.63seconds as well as getting valuable points in the Triple Jump, and Rachael Mathieson was third in the Shot, throwing 8.48m.

Also victorious in a very close competition, were the u15 boys. Andrew Cunningham won the Long Jump with a PB of 5.39m and was 2nd in the Shot with a useful 11.58m. David Kerr won the 400m in an impressive 55.71s and Jack Lochans had 2 second places, 60m Hurdles in 9.83s and a High Jump clearance of 1.60m. Callum Macleod was 3rd 800m and there were valuable points earned by James Quinn 4th in the 200m and Eric Conway 5th in the 60m.

The Kilbarchan u20 men’s team just missed Gold, finishing a very close second. Cameron Clark was a good winner of the Long Jump and Triple Jump with clearances on 6.30m and 13.86m as well as earning points in the High Jump., Martin Lipton won the 400m in an impressive 50.50 seconds and was second in the 60mHurdles in a PB of 8.82s. Mark Chisholm had 2 seconds, the 60m in 7.32s and the 200m in 23.80s and was also 3rd in the Shot with a PB of 9.04m while Stuart Miller was 4th in the 800m.

The under17 men were third in a very tight competition, Andrew McLaughlan won the Shot with a fine 12.97m and Jamie Milton did well with 2nd in the 60m Hurdles (8.89s), third in the Long Jump (5.27m) and was also 4th in the Triple Jump. Matthew Wallace was 3rd in the 200m in 24.22s as well as getting a 4th place in the 60m, And there were more points from Blair Crawford 4th in the 400m and 5th in the High Jump, and from Connor Henderson 4th in the 800m.

Initial scores indicated that the under 17 girls had just missed a medal position but scrutiny corrected this and they were delighted to be placed 3rd. Emily McQuade was 2nd in the 200m in 27.52s and 4th in the 60m in 8.37s, both PBs; Hannah Boyd was 2nd in the Triple Jump (9.85m) and 4th in the Long Jump; Judith McNicol was 2nd in the 60m Hurdles (9.50s) and 5th in the 300m; Sally Webster was 3rd in the Shot with 7.07m. Also 4th place points from Nile McMillan in the High Jump and Sorcha Lynch in the 800m.

There were also relays run in conjunction with the finals and the Kilbarchan under 13 boys team of Ryan Richards, Nicholas Love, Christopher McStay and Alistair Preston-Jones won Silver medals in a club record time of 2.00.63.
