Report and results from 3rd Meeting on Sunday 3 February 2008
|
Report from Arthur Smith.... There were top performances at the 3rd meeting of the Scottish Indoor Athletics League at the Kelvin Hall last weekend and as a result, the Club qualifies for the Scottish Finals in no fewer than 5 of the 10 age categories, a superb effort.
Competing in the Afternoon section of the competition, the Kilbarchan under 15 boys had to win to qualify for the finals in March and did that in fine style. The under 17 men, under 17 and under 20 women’s teams all won on the day to qualify comfortably and the under 20 men did just enough to qualify in second place.
Individual winners included Jack Lochans who had a double victory in the under 15 age group, winning the High Jump clearing 1.65m which tops the Scottish rankings and the 60m Hurdles in 10.03seconds, both Personal Bests. In the same age group, Andrew Cunningham won the Shot with a PB of 11.98m, another top Scottish rankings performance, and also for the under 15s, David Kerr won the 400metres.
There were several winners in the under 20 women’s age group. Holly Belch won the 60m and the 400m, Emma Pettigrew won the High Jump (PB 1.48m) and the Long Jump, Claire McNicol won the 800m and Rachael Mathieson was the winner of the Shot. Other winners on the day were Hazel Ross (u15 60m Hurdles), Emily McQuade (u17girls High Jump, PB of 1.48m)) and Gordon Galbraith (under 11s 60m).
Special mention for Jamie Milton who smashed his own under 17s club record for the 60m Hurdles with an excellent time of 8.86 seconds as well as winning the Shot with a PB of 10.90m.
Notable performances also came from Hazel Ross who completed a good afternoon with second places in the under 15 girls High Jump 1.50m and the 60m in 8.49s; David Kerr 2nd in the u15 200m in 25.1s; Matthew 2nd the u17 200m in 24.4s; Judith McNicol with 2 seconds for the u17 girls, the 60mH in 9.55s and the Long Jump 4.61m; and for the under 20 men, Stuart Miller was 2nd in the 400m and the 800m.
Valuable 3rd places were earned by Ryan Richards (u13 60m and Shot), Nicholas Love (u13 800m), Stephen Fleming (u17 400m), Connor Henderson (u17 800m), Heather Ross (u17 300m), Sally Webster (u17 Shot) and all the other athletes who contributed to a successful afternoon. |
