Local schools were well represented at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall last week.

Hazel Blair (Park Mains High School) won an exciting High Jump competition in the over 16 category and after a jump off, won with a clearance of 1.63m.

Andrew McLaughlan attends Kilwinning Academy and is a member of Kilbarchan Athletic Club and Andrew won the over 16s Shot with a fine effort measured at 14.36m. Third was Andrew Cunningham (Gryffe High School), with a Personal Best of 12.40m.

Holly Belch, who attends Glasgow Academy and is another Kilbarchan club member, had to miss her specialist sprint Hurdles event but ran a fine 400m race to earn the Silver Medal in a PB of 42.04s with clubmate Heather Ross (Park Mains HS). grabbing the Bronze medal with a time of 43.94s. Sister Hazel Ross equalled the club record with a time of 9.38s for Silver in the under 16s 60mHurdles and it was also Silver for Cameron Clark (Garnock Academy) in the over 16s Long Jump, just outside his best with a leap of 6.56m.

Matthew Wallace (Trinity High School) was a double bronze winner in the under 16 sprint events, a PB of 7.52s in the 60m and 24.31 in the 200m where he was credited with a remarkable 23.07 in his semi-final. Gary Stevenson (Park Mains HS) was third in the over 16 boys 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.77s. Mark Chisholm ran a PB of 7.31s for Bronze in the over 16s 60m and there were also Bronze medals Samantha Kelly (Glasgow School of Sport) over 16s 800m; and Connor Henderson (Gryffe HS) under 16s 60mHurdles.

Most other local schools were represented with youngsters giving a good account of themselves with several Personal Best performances.
