Kilbarchan athletes won a host of medals at the Scottish Closed and West District Indoor Championships at the Kelvin Hall and there were three club records and many other personal best performances.
In the Scottish Closed Championship events, Craig Fleming, still only twenty, showed outstanding speed and power to demolish the opposition in the 200metres, smashing the Kilbarchan club record in the process, with a time of 21.75seconds. Alyssa Fullelove was another Scottish winner, regaining the 60metres Hurdles title in a good quality race, time 8.56 seconds. David Watson continues to show good pre summer season form, winning Silver in the Long Jump clearing 6.68m, and Bronze in the Triple Jump with 14.12m. David’s prodigy Cameron Clark, still only 17, finished 4th in both events clearing 6.59m and 13.76m winning the top under 20 award in both events. His Long Jump effort was also a new club age group record.
Holly Belch, another 17 year old, was third in the 60m Hurdles in 9.33s and also won the top under 20 award. There were also Scottish bronze medals for Hazel Blair in the High Jump (1.60m) and for Andrew Dawkins in the Shot (14.71m).
In the West District Championships for younger age groups there were more impressive performances. Judith McNicol won the under 17 women's Triple Jump clearing 10.11m and was also second in the 60m Hurdles in 9.65s, both Personal bests; and in the same category, Nile McMillan was 2nd in the High Jump with 1.50m. For the under 17 boys, Jamie Milton equalled his club record when winning the 60mHurdles in 9.03s and Andrew McLaughlan was another winner taking the Shot title with 12.31m. There were also Bronze medals for Stephen Fleming (800m in 2.06.42) and Jamie Milton (Long Jump 5.22m).
For the under 15 boys, Andrew Cunningham was in fine form winning the Shot with a Personal best throw of 11.74m and also winning the Long Jump with 5.10m. Jack Lochans also had a good Championship, winning the 60m Hurdles in a personal best of 10.06 seconds and finishing 2nd in the High Jump clearing 1.60m. David Kerr won 2 Bronze medals, his 7.70s for the 60m being a club age group record and his 25.00 200m time was also a personal best. There were also Bronze medals for Brooke Hepburn in the under 15 girls Shot and also for Ryan Richards in the under 13 boys Shot. |
