West Dist XC Relays at Ayr Sat 8th October 2005

Results are published on the Scottish Athletics Web Site.

Young athletes boys (3x1.5ml), young athletes girls (3x1.5), women ( 3x2.5ml) and men (4x2.5ml).

Congratulations to the Girls team who yesterday won the West XC Relay Championship. This surprise success was no doubt helped by the disqualification of the Cityof Glasgow team for cutting th course but who knows what would have happened if Natalie and Elspeth had been battling at the front instead of suddenly finding themselves 200m behing the apparent leader.

It was a splendid effort by Kirstie Porteous, Natalie Sharp and Elspeth Curran and congratulations to them.
We actually had 7 girls teams out which was a great show.

The men won Silver medals with a quartet of James Snodgrass, Ross Toole, Conor McNulty and Tom Hearle,
though James was perhaps still feeling the effects of his marathon the previous week.. Conor's run was remarkable, being the 2nd fastest of the day at 12.44. There was also a fine run by Calum Morrison for the B team who must be in contention for the A team for the Renfrewshire relays bext Sunday.
4 teams out on the day was a good effort.

Boys team won Bronze with a trio of Connor Henderson, Craig Macdonald and Derek Hawkins with Derek running the 2nd fastest time of the day.
The boys also had 7 teams out which again was a fine effort.

After some call offs, the Ladies did well to get a team out with Dennise Smith having a fine run to finish thrd in the first lap, well supported by Karen Yule and a special word for Kate O'Brien who turned out and helped the team finish a very creditable 7th.

It was altogether a good day and congratulations to everyone who took part.

Andrew McLauglan

We have a Scottish Record holder .. last night at Grangemouth, Andrew McLaughlan broke the Scottish u13 Shot record with an outstanding 12.04m.

Every time Andrew has thrown this year he has improved, breaking the club record a month or so ago and again a few time since, including when he won the Scottish Champs.
So this was a splendid finish to his season and his spell as an u13 boy.
I know he has worked hard for this, with invaluable coaching advice from Jim Green, so again congratulations to Andrew.

To finish off the evening, Andrew threw the Discus 28.40m, breaking his own club record.
