CASSLE Meet at Wishaw - Sunday 3rd June 2011‏

 

On a baking hot day in Wishaw, Kilbarchan completed the hat trick of wins in this year's CSSAL matches, easily gaining re-promotion to Division 1. A slightly depleted team nevertheless generated a plethora of personal bests, plenty of event wins, and a new club record in the 4x100m relay for the Under 11 Boys. The final match total was 1334 points to Kilbarchan, with Ronhill Cambuslang second in 1171 points, also gaining promotion by a narrow margin over Corstorphine.

 

The tone was set in the very first event, with Christina Rankin winning the 3000m in 10:15, more than two minutes ahead of her nearest rival. Ross McGill ran a very fast 11.2 for the Senior Men's' 100m and also won the 'B' 400m, with Connor Henderson winning the 'A' race in a swift 51.3. Under 17s Adrian Mendez-McVeigh and Adam Butler had a fine day, with Adrian first in the 400m and two seconds in 100m and long jump, and Adam Butler first in the 'B' 100m, 400m and Long Jump. Russell Mountford was a comfortable winner of the 800m with Callum Matthews winning the 'B' string in a PB.

 

Paul Leck and Stephen Fleming were impressive in the Senior men's 800m and Stephen followed it up with a rare outing and win in the 'B' long jump, with Andrew Cunningham winning the 'A' string and also setting a PB of 11.14m in the Senior shot putt. Young Liam McLaughlin made an impression with 13.9 in the Under 13 Boys 100m, fastest in the club this season. Andrew MacAngus, Callum Barrie, Lewis King and Alan Morton dominated the Under 11 boys events. Top points haul on the day went to Adrian Mendez McVeigh, followed by Under 15 Nigel Muyaba, who was second in the 400m and 800m and fourth in the 100m.

 

For the girls, the outstanding athlete was Under 15 Caitlin Stewart, who 2nd in the 100m, long jump and shot putt. Under 17 Cleo Jackson also performed well, winning the high jump and 2nd in the 800m. Frances Campbell had good second places in the 100m and discus. Jemma Reekie and Kathryn Lee won the A and B string Under 15 800m. Eve Griffiths was impressive again in winning the Under 11 600m and Bethany Craig won her 80m race.

 

Finally, the Masters performed up to their usual standard, with Janice Ross and Kenny Milton winning yet again at 100m, and Stuart Tytler running well in the 100m and 800m.

 

There were 32 event wins and 25 personal bests set on another good day out for the club.
