Eadies Half Marathon - Sunday 2 November 2008 by Lesley McKerral

I headed north yesterday, with my support crew of Calum, Ewan and Jennifer to Fort William.  The weather and scenery was spectacular, in particular Rannoch Moor where the lochans were as smooth as glass and the snow topped mountains absolutely stunning.  This is a small race with only 165 finishers so the runners thin out fairly quickly.  The race starts and finishes at the Shinty pitch and the route heads out through a housing estate, then onto a cycle path before joining the main road in the direction of Mallaig.  At the halfway point, we ran behind a marshal in the middle of the road and then headed back the way we had come.  It became a wee bit dodgy because there were then two lines of runners as well as cars trying to get through.  My support crew were safely parked in a layby (munching on Big Macs) and gave shouts of “hello Mum” which, as always was very much appreciated.

I felt I ran well and finished in 1 hour 52 (a little disappointed at this), but above all it was a great day out.  I have a confession…I too, munched on a McDonalds on the trip down the road.  I wouldn’t recommend it as post race food but it sure fills a space when you need it!
