Belfast Marathon - Monday 5 May 2008 by Robert Connell

On Monday morning I got up at 4 and got all my running gear together and when down to Belfast at half 6 in the morning.  I got in to Belfast at 7 by car two hours before the start of the marathon.

At the start of the Belfast city Marathon the wheelchair race started 30mins before the Marathon and all the marathon runner and relay teams and marathon walker we all started together about 10,000 of us.  It was a mad start, but I soon get in to a good pace and I was at the 1 mile in 8.44sec and at 6 miles 57minutes.

The first 6 miles was flat but anther half it started to go up hill on the falls road to Cavehill road and Antrim road, at the 13 miles we started going down hill to Gidean’s Green  the 16.6 miles point were we got are first energy drink. It was a nice day but to hot for running fast.

We when along shore road though Whitehouse park and on to the cycle path back in to Belfast to the 21 miles were we got a full bottle of energy drink a big wow a full bottle.  We went along the towpath to Ormeau Bridge left onto Ormeau road left turn on to Ravehill road for two miles left turn onto Ormeau embankment and we turn left in to the driveway to indoor Tennis Arena and Ozone Complex in Ormeau Park for a 100m were put in a sprint finish at the end of the Belfast City Marathon a time of 4hours 11minutes and 10sec. It was my fastest Marathon so for.

Thanks to all the club member and Derek Parker for their Support
