Flora London Marathon - Sunday 13 April 2008 by Michael Finlay

On the Thursday I woke up at 6pm ready for the 9am flight down to Gatwick. We arrived in at 9.15am where the weather was dry but cold. We then got the train out to where we where staying then went to unpack then settle in. The next two days I sat with my feet up resting until Sunday morning where I was up at 6am eating my breakfast. We then went to the train station and was heading for Blackheath where the nervous did kick in. The train was packed with runners and spectators when we got of the train heading for the blue start where I have started from for three years now. I phoned Neal to see where he was and went to meet him in the start area where I wished him and Caroline good luck, I then went to the little boy’s room before heading to the start where I went into pen 3. I started around the corner this year where I did not here the starters horn until the crowds cheered and we where off. My aim was to try and go off slow and get faster nearer the end which my splits show.

The crowds were very supportive and the last 6 miles I was trying to push the pace right to the finish which I felt I was doing and when I reach he finish I found a sprint finish where I crossed the line in 3hrs 22mins and 11sec which was a pb by 8mins. My first marathon was 3hrs 47min then 3hrs 30min then 3hrs 30min then my last one was 3hrs 22min. Which I want be doing any other one for a good while now.

I hope the grammar is ok for the people that said to me last time. I hope all the people when they finish a race we get reports from them. It makes it worth while reading about these races before other people try them.

Just to say thanks to all at Kilbarchan aac for there support and to Neal Gibson for training with me and to John Kynaston for guessing 3hrs 18min 20sec that made me want to go on a bit and try to achieve that and to my family for the support they should all the way threw training.

This is my last one now for a few years ill focus on the short distance (maybe)  my half marathons and 10ks.
