| Glasgow Veterinary Surgeon Hayley Haining, was in superb form competing in the Great North Run ½ marathon event at the weekend. The Kilbarchan athlete, competing against some of the world’s best, finished in 6th position in a personal best time of 70 minutes 53 seconds. Hayley now looks forward to competing in the New York Marathon in three weeks time and looks to be in fine form in preparation for this famous event.
At home, the Kilbarchan Ladies team surpassed all expectations at the weekend when for the first time in the club’s history, they won the Women's race at the McAndrew Road Relays at Jordanhill. Teams of three, run in relay over the 3.25miles circuit and City of Glasgow AC, now Victoria Park City of Glasgow, have dominated this event over many years. However, this was Kilbarchan’s year and on the first lap, Elspeth Curran took the lead after a mile and gradually stretched away to come home over 30 seconds clear, running a time of 19 minutes 4 seconds, which was a club record and also the fastest of the day. Leanne Hamilton on the second leg, worked hard to pull further ahead and her fine time of 19-17 was the 3rd fastest of the day, giving the team a lead of nearly 2 minutes. On the final leg, Hannah Waugh looked comfortable all the way and finished in 20.22, still nearly a minute to spare and the overall time of 58 minutes 43 seconds, smashed the Kilbarchan club record for the race. Club officials were also encouraged by the performance on the B team of Louise Manson, Lynsey Curran and Christina Rankin, who finished in 4th place.
This Saturday, the West District Cross Country Relays are at Irvine Moor, with young athletes as well as men's and Women's events.
