| Some fine performances over a busy New Year period ..
Robert Quinn continued his recent fine form when he won the Masters event at the McCains UK Challenge Cross Country at Belfast at the weekend.
The Donald Crawford Cup 7mile handicap and Ballot Team Hogmanay Race produced a clear winner in Brian Graham. Fastest scratch time was 65 minutes 10 seconds by Fraser Williams with Paul Leck running 65.22 and Donald Petrie 65.50 with Louise Manson fastest lady running 71.01..
At the annual Beith Harriers New Year races on 2nd January, Ross Toole was an impressive winner of the 4.8ml race in the fast time of 23 minutes and younger athletes successes included Emma Haddock winning the under 15 girls race and Euan Gillham winning the under 13 boys event.
The Nigel Barge 10K Road race on 3rd January, attracted a good turnout with a fine run by Leanne Hamilton for 2nd place in the women's race in a speedy 36.53 and in the Men's race, under 20 athletes Scott Hawkins and Paul Leck were 3rd and 4th.
At the second meeting of the Indoor League on Sunday at the Kelvin Hall, the under17 men's team won on the day with Andrew McLaughlan winning the shot with a fine effort measured at 14.95m. Also for the under 17s, Jack Lochans was 2nd in the High Jump (1.65m) and Triple Jump (11.40m+) and David Kerr 2nd in the 60m (7.61s) and the 400m (54.0s). For the under 17 women, Hazel Ross won the 60m Hurdles (9.55s) and the High Jump (1.55m) and there was a good overall performance from the under 15 boys who finished 2nd on the day with Adam Butler winning the 400m in 60.0s+. Other winners included Cameron Clark who won the under 20s Triple Jump (13.21m) and Frances Campbell, winner of the under 15 girls 60m in 8.57s.
