There were some fine performances by Kilbarchan Athletic Club’s young athletes who represented Scotland in the Celtic Games International Match at Grangemouth last Saturday., including 2 club records.

 

            Andrew McLaughlan smashed the u17 long standing club Shot record with a fine throw of 14.80m, finishing in 3rd place and putting him joint top of the Scottish rankings. Andrew Cunningham beat his own u15 boys Discus club record and underlined his position at the top of the Scottish rankings, with a splendid effort of 38.55m. for 2nd place. Callum Hawkins ran close to his PB in the 3000m with the fast time of 8.47.34,

for 2nd place and Connor Henderson was 3rd in the 400m Hurdles in a time of 58.69s.

 

            Elsewhere, Paul Arcari kept up his winning sequence, winning the Islay 1/2 marathon .

            Last Monday, the Tour of Clydeside series of races began with the 5.5 mile race along the cycle track, starting at Kilbarchan, going to the Collegiate Church near Lochwinnoch and returning to Kilbarchan. The winner was the youngest runner in the field, 16 year old Stephen Fleming, who stays in Neilston and is a member of Kilbarchan Athletic Club. Stephen’s winning time was 31 minutes 8 seconds, about 120 metres ahead of the second placed runner.  John Kynaston was 6th in 33.47 and Karen Yule was 3rd woman in 36.46.

           

This coming weekend, Kilbarchan Athletic Club will have a bus load at East Kilbride. competing in the 3rd and final meeting of the Central and South of Scotland League Division One and hopeful of doing well enough to retain the League title which they won for the first time last year.
