| Hayley Haining was in good form competing in the Paisley 10K on Sunday, winning the Women's race in convincing style in a time of 34 minutes and 7 seconds. Hayley was in fact 8th overall with Shettleston Harriers Eritrean international athletes filling the first 4 places. Leanne Hamilton also ran well to finish 5th in the Women's race (38.28) but unfortunately the Kilbarchan club just missed out in the team awards, finishing 4th.
19 year old Scott Hawkins was top local athlete, finishing in 6th place (33.18) and with James Snodgrass 8th (34.39) and John McMillan 16th (35.53), Kilbarchan were 2nd in the team race behind Shettleston Harriers. James also won the award for the top over 40 athlete.
The Fun Run is actually serious business for some of the younger athletes and there was a fine run from Kilbarchan’s Craig Haxton who finished strongly to win by around 15 metres in 8 minutes 36 seconds. Neil Gourley (Giffnock North) was just 2 seconds behind and Kilbarchan’s Russell Mountford was a close third in 8.41. For the girls, Jenny Eadie had a fine run to win in 9.49, ahead of Kilbarchan clubmate Gwen Gillham (10.03) with Chloe Cowan (Giffnock North) third. Scott McLardie (Kilbarchan AAC) was first Primary boy, 15th overall, in 9.44 and first Primary girl was Holly Little (Victoria Park Glasgow) in 10.28.
Elsewhere, the British Junior Hill Running Scottish team trials were held at Menstrie near Alloa and Kilbarchan athlete Jessica Martin did well to finish 2nd over a tough course, time 36 minutes 35 seconds with clubmate Christine Rankin 3rd in 38.55.
On the track, Hazel Ross completed a successful double at the Scottish Women's League meeting at Aberdeen, winning the under 17s80m Hurdles and the 300m Hurdles and in the under 15s category, Frances Campbell was also a double winner, coming home first in the 100m and the 200m.
