| Well over 1000 runners competed in the Scottish Cross Country Relay Championships at Cumbernauld last weekend with Kilbarchan Athletic Club one of the top performing clubs.
The Senior Women's team have had a lot of success recently and that continued with the trio of Elspeth Curran, Cara Sloss and Kerry Lang who performed superbly against over 70 other teams, to take the Silver medals behind Central AC with Elspeth’s time of 15 minutes 24 seconds for the 4K circuit, the 4th fastest of the day. The Kilbarchan B team of Natalie Sharp, Jessica Marin and Leanne Hamilton, were also prominent, finishing in 12th place.
The Kilbarchan Men, recently 3rd in the West Relay Championships, put up a terrific fight, just losing out in the battle for Silver medals, to Central AC, with Shettleston Harriers good winners. The quartet included Callum Hawkins, Conor McNulty, Derek Hawkins and Paul Leck with Derek the 5th fastest with a time of 13.00 for the tough undulating course.120 teams took part and included a competition for veteran men with the Kilbarchan team of Donald Petrie, Tom Hearle, James Snodgrass and John McMillan, having a great day, winning Bronze in their section.
Kilbarchan were the holders of the Boys Young Athletes Championships though were not hopeful of any success this year. However the trio of Gavin McArdle, Russell Mountford and Graham Evans surpassed themselves to take third place, with Gavin on the first leg, for under 13 boys having the fastest time of the day for his category, 9.34 for the 2.5K course The Kilbarchan B team of Euan Gillham, Chris McStay and Craig Haxton were 17th from around 80 starting teams with Euan Gillhan 4th fastest on the first leg for under 13 boys behind Gavin.
The Kilbarchan girls were greatly improved from last year, finishing in 8th place out of around 70 starting teams, with a team of Gwen Gillham, Elaine Eadie and Kate Gillies.
