Press Releases - Monday 26 January 2009

Though Kilbarchan Athletic Club were unable to defend their team title at the Scottish 4K Cross Country Championships last weekend at Bellahouston Park, there were some good performances and various team awards in the Young Athletes Open races.

Paul Leck was the best placed Kilbarchan athlete in Men's 4K finishing in 10th place. Underfoot conditions were very difficult, all mud and glaur but Paul coped well, finishing in 13 minutes 10 seconds, with team-mate

Scott Hawkins 14th in 13.19.

In the Women's race, Elspeth Curran finished 14th in 16.00, with Leanne Hamilton one place behind.

There were some fine performances in the Young athletes races over 2k. Gwen Gillham was 2nd in the under 13 girls race and the girls were third team with Kathryn Lee 18th and Catherine McLean 19th. These three girls are all just in their first year in the age group so it was a fine effort. The under 15 girls did well to finish 2nd team with Elaine Eadie 4th, Jenny Eadie 7th and Vanessa Hogan 11th. There was also good packing by the under 13 boys team to win the team award with Callum Matthews 7th, Euan Gillham 8th and Rorie Tracey 12th. Russell Mountford had a fine run in the under15 boys race, finishing in 3rd place.
