Press Releases - Monday 25 August 2008

Kilbarchan Athletic Club had only one Gold medallist at the Scottish Age group Championships at Grangemouth last weekend, though several others just missed out but had the consolation of winning Silver or Bronze.

Derek Colquhoun, who tops the Scottish under 13 boys High Jump rankings, won the Gold Medal for that event, with an excellent 1.51m clearance.

In the under 15 boys category, Andrew Cunningham was so close to Gold, in fact winning 2 Silvers and a Bronze. Andrew was leading in the Discus, until the last throw when his 37.49m was beaten and he had to settle for Silver. It was also the Silver Medal for the Shot with a fine effort of 12.96m and in the Long Jump, a Personal Best of 5.68m secured the Bronze medal to complete a very good weekend. Jack Lochans also had a successful day, also a triple medallist, winning Bronzes in the High Jump equalling his PB with a 1.66m clearance, the Triple Jump with a PB of 11.09m and another PB in the 80m Hurdles with a time of 12.77 seconds. Also in the under 15s age group, top ranked David Kerr was disappointed to be second in the 200m and in the 400m, though his 200m time of 23.52seconds was a PB and in the 400m 53.13 seconds was excellent in the windy conditions. In the under 15 boys 100m, James Quinn did well to win the Bronze medal in a time of 12.12 seconds.

For the girls in the under 15 category, Hazel Ross ran well after her recent injury, to win the Silver medal in the 75m Hurdles in 11.79 seconds.

In the under 17 boys age group, Andrew McLaughlan won Silver in the Shot with a good effort of 14.34m, Connor Henderson was a silver medallist in the 400m Hurdles in 58.06 seconds and Jamie Milton won Bronze in the 100m Hurdles timed at 14.53 seconds.

The Senior Scottish Relay Championships were also staged at the weekend and the Kilbarchan Senior Women's teams won Silver in both events. The 4x100m team included Emma Pettigrew, Michelle Bell,

Natalie Sharp and Holly Belch and the 4x400m quartet

was Holly Belch, Natalie Sharp, Cara Sloss and Michelle Bell.

Elsewhere, a group of young Kilbarchan athletes travelled to Rothesay to take part in the Bute Highland Games, where Elizabeth McDougall won the MVA award for endeavour and commitment.

On the roads, Paul Arcari continued to fly the Kilbarchan flag. winning the Quiraing 10K Road Race in Skye,

in 31 minutes 2 seconds.

This coming weekend, the Scottish Senior Championships are being staged at Pitreavie .
