Around 160 youngsters took part in the Kilbarchan Invitation Schools Cross Country races in Kilbarchan park at the weekend and they provided some great competition which was greatly appreciated by the many spectators.

            Apart from Lilias Day, this must be the busiest day of the year in Kilbarchan park and the weather this year, made it quite a spectacle.

            Robyn Connolly from St Catherine's Primary, won the first race of the afternoon, the P5-6 girls 1100m race in 5 minutes 1 second, just ahead of Catriona McWilliams from Bridge of Weir Primary with Olivia Gemmell from St Columbas School in third place.

            There was also a close race in the P5-6 boys 1100m event, with Scott McLardie from St Peters, winning in 4.21 and just getting the better of Owen Bannatyne from St Columbas with Euan McKerral from Bridge of Weir PS 3rd..

            Chloe Hardie (St Cloumbas) led from the start to win the P7 girls 1100m event in 4.27 though was chased all the way by Gwen Gillham (Bridge of Weir), with Deborah Staber (StColumbas) 3rd; and in the P7 boys, Euan Gillham (Bridge of Weir) was impressive in winning ahead of David Collins (Bushes PS), with Andrew Irvine (Houston), 3rd.

            Kirsty Harper (St Columbas) won the under 13 girls race over 1900m in 7 minutes 51 seconds with Laura McEwan (St Andrews) in second place ans Sophie Menteith (St Columbas ) 3rd and in the under 13 boys 2700m race, Callum Matthews (Castlehead) won in 10.49, with Greg Cunning (St Columbas) winning the battle for 2nd place ahead of Rorie Tracey (St Aloysius).

            Jenny Eadie (Hutchesons)looked speedy in winning the under 15 girls 2700m in 10 minutes 44 seconds, with Katie McAlpine (St Columbas) and Emma Haddock (St Andrews) filling the minor places and Charlotte Walker (Gryffe) won the under 17 girls race over 3600m. Callum Macleod (StColumbas) led all the way to win the under 15 boys race over 3600m, time 12.46, with Russell Mountford (Gleniffer), working hard to finish 60 metres behind and Ross Heggie (Gryffe) was 3rd.

            St Columbas School dominated the team events and won both the Primary Schools Trophy and the Secondary Schools cup, the latter for the first time.
