Kilbarchan’s Robert Quinn represented Scotland in the Commomwealth uphill Hill Running Championship at Keswick at the weekend where he produced a fine performance for 10th place, top Scot, in a time of 54minutes 48seconds.

 

And in Australia where she was recently 21st and 3rd Brit in the World Series Triathlon, Kerry Lang ran in the Sydney Festival 9K Road Race where she was 2nd in a fast 31 minutes 50 seconds

 

Back home, there was a good turnout for the annual cross country races in Kilbarchan Park last Sunday and the spectators were treated to some exciting competition.

 

            First race was for Primary 5-6 girls and Iona Miller (St Columbas School) was a good winner in 4 minutes 40 seconds with Rebecca Craig and Catriona McWilliams, both Bridge of Weir Primary, in second and third helping Bridge if Weir to win the team prize.  St Columbas School also provided the winner on the Primary 5-6 boys race, Josh Hendry coming home first in 4.25. Bridge of Weir again finished 2nd and 3rd through Andrew Maclean and Robert Mallinder and again Bridger of Weir won the team award.

 

            Robyn Connolly, (St Catherines PS) won the P7 girls race in 4.36 with St Columbas School filling the nest two places with Olivia Gemmell 2nd and Lauren Aistin 3rd, helping their School to win the team . Scot McLardie (St Peters PS) was a clear winner of the P7 boys race in 7.08, Owen Bannatyne (St Columbas) was 2nd and Conor Toal (Bridge of Weir) was 3rd and St Columbas won the team.

 

Chloe Hardie (St Columbas) won the under 13 girls race in 7.31, Gwen Gillham (Gryffe HS) was 2nd and Emma Arnold (Park Mains HS) was 3rd and St Columbas won another team title. Euan Gillham (Bridge of Weir), won the under 13 boys race in 9.37 with Gavin McArdle (Gleniffer HS) in 2nd place and David Richardson (Gryffe HS) leading Gryffe to the team title.

 

Kirsty Harper (St Columbas),was a clear winner of the under 15 girls race in 10.49, with Erin Campbell (Gryffe) 2nd and Catriona Love (St Columbas) in 3rd place and Emma Haddock (St Andrews) won the under 17 girls race in 15.40. Russell Mountford (Gleniffer GS), ran strongly to win the under 15 boys race in 12.03 ahead of Callum Matthews (Castlehead) 2nd and Greg Cunning (St Columbas) who was third and in the final race of the day, for under 17 boys, Calum Macleod (St Columbas) was the winner in 15.24, with Craig Haxton (Castlehead) in 2nd place and Jordan Brady (Holywell) in third place.

 

St Columbas School retained the Trophies for the best overall performances in both Primary and Secondary events.

 

The local road race season continued with two 10K races.  Chris Devenney from Houston and a member of Kilbarchan Athletic Club, won the Kilmacolm 10K recording the good time of 33.43 over a very hilly course.

 

 Fiona Ramsay was first women to finish, in 42.29. In the ½ marathon, John Sharp won in 80.22 with Pamela McCrossan first woman in 89.22. In the 3K Fun run, first home was Callum Matthews in 10.15 with Myrtle Breckenridge first girl in 11.48.

 

            The 10K race at Barrhead was won by David Phee (Giffnock North), time 33.25, with Barrhead local Jim McMillan (Kilbarchan AAC) first over 60 in 45.30 .
