The Scottish Closed and West District Indoor Championships were staged at the Kelvin Hall at the weekend and there were some top class performances from local athletes representing Kilbarchan Athletic Club.

 

            Craig Stewart had a superb double success, winning Scottish titles in the 200m in 22.58 seconds and also the 400m, time 49.09, his time in the 400m heat being a faster 48.95s.

 

            David Watson won the Triple Jump title with a leap of 14.65m and teammate Cameron Clark was second with 13.83m.

 

            Alison Rodger  showed excellent form to win the Women's Shot with a putt of 14.52m and in the Men's Shot, Andy Dawkins was 2nd despite smashing his own club record with a superb 15.87m.

In the Women's 200m, Alyssa Fullelove, running under Victoria Park Glasgow, won in 26.18s.

           

            The West District Indoor Championships were decided at the same venue and again the Kilbarchan club provided a number of medalists.

 

            Andrew McLaughlan retained his under 17 mens Shot title with a good effort of 14.50m and

Andrew Cunningham was third with a personal best of 11.86m. Also for the under 17s, Jack Lochans had a very successful weekend, winning 3 medals, Gold in the Triple Jump (11.34m), Silver in the High Jump with a personal best of 1.75m and Bronze in the 60m Hurdles (9.70s). David Kerr won 2 medals in the u17 sprints, 3rd in the 200m in 24.49s (heat time 24.30s) and second in the 400m in 53.89s.

 

            In the under 17 women's age category, Hazel Ross was 2nd in the High Jump (1.55m) and 3rd in the 60m Hurdles (9.37s). Other medalists included Frances Campbell, 3rd in the under 15 girls 60m (8.51s),

Corinne Brooks third in the u15 girls High Jump (1.35m) and Stuart Cannell 3rd in the

under 13 boys 60m (8.9s).

 

            There was another outstanding run by Callum Hawkins at Cardiff at the weekend, representing Scotland in the Celtic International Cross Country event. It was particularly remarkable as Callum, just 16, competed in the under 20s race and won convincingly, by 50 metres. In the under 23 Men's race, Derek Hawkins was 4th and Elspeth Curran was also 4th in the under 23 women's race.

           

            This coming Sunday, the Scottish 4K men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are being staged at Bellahouston Park ..
