| Kilbarchan athletes competed all around the UK at the weekend, in various events.
A number travelled to Gateshead for the first of the winter series on McCains Cross Country Challenge events, a competition which attracts most of Britain's top athletes. 16 year old Callum Hawkins produced an outstanding performance, finishing a close second in the under 17 men's race, time 18 minutes 18 seconds and just 20 metres behind the winner D Mills of Nuneaton Harriers. Older brother Derek Hawkins was perhaps disappointed to be 10th in the Junior Men's race but it was still a good effort as was 20th place by Paul Leck.
In the Senior race, Conor McNulty was 47th in 32.09 with club mate John McMillan 62nd. In the Junior Women's race, Elspeth Curran, who has been showing good early season form, was 20th in 18.20.
Robert Quinn competed in the British and Irish International competition at Swansea and finished a superb 2nd, a performance that vies with Callum’s as the pick of the week.
The Braid Hills Cross Country race in Edinburgh always attracts good athletes and Kilbarchan had 3 young women competing with Jessica Martin finishing 12th in 19.39, followed by Christina Rankin 19.52 and Eilidh Menzies 50th.
