| Kilbarchan Athletic Club’s Annual General Meeting and Awards Presentations will be held at the David Lloyd Club on Wednesday 24th September. The final awards to be presented, were decided at the Club Track and Field Championships which were concluded last week.
Top Scottish Triple jumper David Watson, showed his speed to retain the Donnie Stewart Memorial Trophy when he won the 100m in 11.2 seconds. David also won the Field Championships, despite no jumping in his favourite Triple Jump event, his best performance being an impressive 6.61m for the Long Jump. Craig Stewart won the Track Championship Shield, winning the 200m in a fast 22.7 seconds as well as the 400m and 800m. Top under 20 was Cameron Clark who was 2nd overall in the Field Championship and Jim Ogilvie won the Veterans Track and Field titles.
The Senior Women's Championship events were dominated by Holly Belch who won the Track Rosebowl and also the Field title, finishing off by winning the 100m Ladies Salver in 12.9 seconds. Claire Gibson won the 1500m race smashing the club record with a time of 4 minutes 23.0 seconds. Jacquie Lochans won the veterans Field events title.
The Ross sisters were prominent in the girls categories Hazel winning the under 15 girls Track and Field championships which included a 5.00m Long Jump while Heather won the under 17 women's Track title and was also 3rd in the Field competition. Winner of the under 17 women's Field competition was Sally Webster which included a 28.60m Hammer throw.
For the under 13 girls, Chloe Hardie was the Track winner and Gwen Gillham came top in the Field events. The under 11 girls Track and Field Championship was shared by Victoria Cleer and Mhairi Rundell. Matthew Wallace won the under 17 boys Track Championship which included a speedy 11.4s win in the 100m and Andrew McLaughlan was the class act in the Field events.
In the under 15 boys age group, James Quinn was the star track performer, wins including the 100m in 12.1s, while Andrew Cunningham won the Field title, including a club record Discus throw of 38.57m. Christopher McStay won the under 13 boys Track title and was 2nd in the Field competition which was won by Duncan Webb and the under 11 boys Track and Field winner was Andrew Irvine.
After winning the under 17 boys Field Championship, Andrew McLaughlan competed in the Grand Prix finals at Perth at the weekend where he set a new Kilbarchan record for the Shot, beating the 15metre barrier for the first time with 15.07m. At the same meeting, Jack Lochans was 3rd in the under 15 boys Pentathlon competition.
Jessica Martin was top Scot in the Scottish Junior Women's team competing in the World Mountain Running Championships in Switzerland at the weekend,
The 17 year old Kilbarchan harrier who stays in Neilston, had a fine run to finish in 13th position in 25 minutes 13.3 seconds. The Scottish team which also included Mhairi Inglis from Lothian AC who finished 29th and Kilbarchan clubmate Christine 34th, finished a creditable 12th in the team competition.
This coming weekend, Jessica and Christina will be competing at Bonaly near Edinburgh, in the Scottish trials for the Home Countries International Hill Running Championships to be held in October at the same venue.
