Press Releases - Monday 14 December 2009

17 years old Callum Hawkins had a great experience last Sunday, representing Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the under 20s race at the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin. Callum, one of the youngest in the field of around 80 of Europe’s best runners, finished in a very creditable 19th position in a time of 19 minutes 17 seconds for the muddy 6K circuit. Although disappointed to be just 5th in the team that won the overall Gold medal, it will have been a valuable experience that can only benefit him in the future.

The first meeting of the Scottish Indoor League took place on Sunday at the Kelvin Hall and there were some fine performances from Kilbarchan athletes.

Hazel Ross was one to particularly impress, winning the under 17 women's 60m Hurdles in 9.02 seconds, which equalled a long standing Kilbarchan club record and also smashed the 6 year old Indoor League record. Hazel completed a great day by winning the High Jump with a 1.63m clearance.. The Kilbarchan club had other successes in the under 17 women's category with Frances Campbell winning the 200m in 27.9s and Sarah Glenny winning the 300m in 43.5 seconds. Frances was also 2nd equal in the 60m (8.48m).

The under 20 women provided 2 winners, Natalie Sharp in the 800m (2.18.9s) and Judith McNicol in the 6om Hurdles (10.64s).

Jack Lochans was an outstanding winner in the under 17 men's category, winning the High Jump with a personal best clearance of 1.85m. and in the same age group, Andrew Cunningham was second in the Shot with a Personal Best of 13.18m and also 3rd in the Long Jump with 5.55m.

For the under 15 girls, Sarah Dick had a fine day with 2 second places, the 60m Hurdles in 10.15s and a personal best 1.50m in the High Jump. There was also a 2nd for Callum Matthews in the under 15 boys 800m and 3rd places for Scott McLardie in the u13 boys 800m and for Andrew MacAngus in the under 11 boys 800m.

Also last Saturday at the Pollok Park weekly 5K race, 1st was Ross Toole in a course record time of 15mins 1sec
