| The first ever Scottish Inter regional Championships were staged at Wishaw last Sunday with Scotland divided into 6 regions, Kilbarchan Athletic Club being part of the West Coast Team.
Alison Rodger was the West Coast Team Captain and she paid a major part in leading her team to victory and becoming the first holders of the Innes Trophy, presented in memory of John Innes who did so much for Scottish Athletics over a period of many years,
Alison won the Shot and the Discus, with fine efforts measured at 15.79m and 45.48m, both performances just missing her Kilbarchan club records.
800m specialist Claire Gibson moved up in distance and smashed her own club record when winning the 1500m in 4 minutes 17.53 seconds, marking her out as potentially a top class 1500m runner for the future.
Martin Lipton was a clear winner of the 400m Hurdles in 54.46s and David Watson won the Triple Jump with 14.38m. Craig Fleming produced some fast times for 2nd places in the 100m (10.86s) and the 200m (21.70s), just losing out to a guest runner in the 200m. Derek Hawkins smashed his previous vest for 2nd place in the 5000m with a time of 14.39.74 and Robert Quinn won the B race in 14.48.01 for a new Kilbarchan Veterans record. Notable in this race was the outstanding run from 16 year old Callum Hawkins, running his first ever 5000m and competing as a Guest, finishing in 14.37.78 which puts him at the top of the British rankings. Conor McNulty smashed his own Club 3000m Steeplechase record, leading all the way to win easily in 9.17.27 and other medallists included Elspeth Curran in the Women's 5000m (17.49.47) and Holly Belch in the 400m Hurdles (65.07s).
Also at Wishaw at the weekend, the Scottish under 15s and under 17s Closed Championships were held and there were more top performances from Kilbarchan athletes. Andrew McLauchlan won the under 17 men's Shot with 15.14m and was 3rd in the hammer with 50.32m, both efforts breaking his own club records while Andrew Cunningham was another winning thrower with an effort measured at 34.40m. Hazel Ross was a double medallists, winning the under 17s 80m Hurdles in 11.82 seconds, just missing her own club record, and was also 2nd in the High Jump clearing 1.60m.. Connor Henderson won the 400m Hurdles in a PB of 56.36s and Adrian Menzez-McVeigh also set a PB when winning the under 15 boys 400m in 54.79s. Other medallists included Sarah Glenny, 2nd in the under 15 girls 200m in a PB of 26.76s, Russell Mountford 2nd in the under 15 boys 1500m in 4.26.74 and Jack Lochans 3rd in the under 17 men's High Jump with a 1.75m clearance.
Elsewhere, At the Women's 10K Road race in Glasgow, Hayley Haining, in her first competitive outing since the New York Marathon last November, was first Brit, finishing 5th overall, in a time of 33 minutes 31 seconds. Kilbarchan clubmate Leanne Hamilton was another top Scot, finishing in 15th place, time 37.56.
