Holly Belch was a star performer at the Scottish under 20 and u23 Age group Championships at Grangemouth at the weekend. Holly won the under 20s 100m Hurdles in a Championship Best Performance of 14.34seconds and later in the day the Kilbarchan athlete went on to win the 400m Hurdles in 63.31 seconds. In the same event, Debbie Henderson set a Personal Best to win the Bronze medal in 65.75 seconds.

 

            Martin Lipton was another Hurdles winner, taking the under 23 men's 400m Hurdles title in 55.92 seconds and other winners included Elspeth Curran who took the under 23 women's 5000m title in 18 minutes 14.96 seconds and Cameron Clark who won the under 20 mens Triple Jump with an effort measured at 13.97metres. Elspeth was also 2nd in the under 23 women's 1500m in 4.38.86.and Callum Hawkins was 2nd in the under 20 Men's 1500m in 4.02.60,

 

            Craig Fleming, who also runs for Harrow AC, just missed Gold in the under 23 men's sprints, finishing 2nd in the 100m in 10.60s and also 2nd in the 200m in 21.67s while Natalie Sharp was a close 3rd in the under 20 women's 800m in 2.12.09 with Sally Webster also winning Bronze, in the under 20 women's Discus with 26.96metres.

 

            At the same venue, Kilbarchan under 13 boys team of Scott McLardie, Euan Gillham and Gavin McArdle won the National 3x800m National Relay title and the under 17 men's team of David Kerr, James Quinn, Andrew Cunningham and Callum Macleod were Silver medallists in the 4x400metres Relay.

 

            Also at the weekend, a small group of Kilbarchan athletes, travelled to Bedford to compete in the English under 15 and under 17 Championships. Best placed was Graham Evans who won Bronze for 3rd place in the under 17 mens 1500m steeplechase, time 4.37.01. Other finalists were Connor Henderson 5th in the under 17s 400m Hurdles in 56.08 seconds, Andrew McLaughlan 5th in the Shot with 15.10m and Hazel Ross 7th in the under 17 womens 80m Hurdles in 12.11 seconds.

 

Kilbarchan athlete Chris Devenney showed a significant return to form when he won the Tour of Clydeside 4 race series last week.

 

            Having finished 3rd last Monday at the Kilbarchan Klassic 5mile race along the Cycle track, Chris came into form to win the Canal Bank canter at Clydebank on Tuesday and after Wednesdays rest day also winning the Garscube Gallop on the Thursday. A good second place in the 10K Bellahouston Belter on Friday, assured him of overall victory. Other overall Kilbarchan placings included Stevie Hards 8th and Jim Ogilvie 9th.

 

            Elsewhere, Christina Rankin won the Portree Hill race in Skye, 65 year old Robin Scott ran an outstanding 1 hour 36 minutes 56 seconds at the Helensburgh ½ marathon while John Kynaston competed in the Devil o’ the Highlands 42 miles race from Tyndrum to Fort William finishing 14th in 6 hours 55 minutes 35 seconds.
