| Claire Gibson hit the Athletics headlines again last weekend, competing at the British Milers Cub meeting in Manchester. The 26 year old from Johnstone is set on competing in the 800metres at next years Commonwealth Games in India and on Saturday closed to within 0.4 seconds of the qualifying time with a thrilling victory in 2 minutes 2.24 seconds.
Also at Manchester, Conor McNulty continued his improvement of the Kilbarchan 3K steeplechase record with an excellent run, timed at 9.03.04. There were also Personal Bests for Elspeth Curran in the Women's 1500m, time 4.39.66 and by Derek Hawkins in the Men's 1500m, who dipped under 4 minutes with a time of 3.58.41.
At the weekend, the second meetings of the Scottish Mens league took place at Grangemouth and the Scottish Womens League at Meadowbank.
The Kilbarchan Mens team were good winners of the Division 2 meeting with wins for Craig Fleming in the 100m (11.31s), Craig Stewart (400m in 49.11s), Martin Lipton (400m Hurdles in 55.22s), Andy Dawkins (Shot with 14.86m) and there was a double for David Watson who won the Long Jump with 6.70m and the Triple Jump with 14.70m. The 4x100m relay team of Mark Chisholm, Martin Lipton, Cameron Clark and Craig Stewart were also good winners in 44.40seconds.
At Meadowbank, where Kilbarchan were competing as part of Team West. Sarah Glenny won the under 15 girls 200m in 27.1seconds and was also 2nd in the 100m. Hazel Ross won the under 17 women's 80m Hurdles in 12.3s and was also 2nd in the 300m Hurdles. Elspth Curran was 2nd in the Senior 1500m in 4.43.6 and Holly Belch 3rd in the 100m in 13.1s.
There was also a notable performance last week, at the Linwood Open Graded Meeting, Robert Quinn, a winner of many National titles over a long athletics career, smashed the Scottish Veterans 3000m record with a splendid run, timed at 8.37.27s.
