The Great Scottish Run ½ Marathon, attracted a vast entry, from far and wide and attracted a top international field. The event also counted as the Scottish ½ Marathon Championship and Hayley Haining made her return to major competition by winning the Scottish title. Hayley, finished 5th overall, top Scot, top Brit, in a time of 75minutes 3 seconds and there was also a superb run from Kilbarchan clubmate Gemma Rankin, the previous weekend’s Paisley 10K winner,, who was runner up for the Scottish title, in 7th place overall, 2nd Brit, in a good time of 76.23. And there was another notable performance from Robin Scott, 1st in the over 60s category, in 95.01.


Kilbarchan athletes were also to the fore in the associated 10K race. Elspeth Curran repeated her last year's success, winning the Women s race in 35 minutes 2 seconds, with Christina Rankin 5th in 36.05 and Lynne McPhee 1st W45 category, in 42.35. There were also a number of local youngsters in the junior events, with Laura Stark 3rd in the Girls 3K event.


Elsewhere, Callum Matthews was 2nd in the Junior Menstrie Hill Race, confirming his runner up position in the Junior Hill Race League series, which should ensure his selection for the Home Countries International Hill Race Championships in the Lake District, on 22nd September.
Kilbarchan Athletic Club have also confirmed that their Annual General Meeting and Presentation of Awards, will take place at the David Lloyd Club in Renfrew on Wednesday 26th September.
