There was a fine run by Euan Gillham
from Bridge of Weir, competing in the England Athletics under 17 age group
Championships at Bedford. In a very close race, Euan finished in third pace,
time 8 minutes 48.04 seconds. Fellow Kilbarchan Athletic Club member Gavin
McArdle, reached the final of the 1500m but finished outside the medals.
Also last Sunday, the final meeting of the Central and South of Scotland
League Division One, was staged ot Scotstoun stadium. The club finished mid
table on the day and overall, the season had gone well, finishing in runners
up spot.
This coming weekend, the Scottish young athletes championships are at
Grangemouth, with a number of local entries and Kilbarchan officials are
optimistic about medal prospects.
Also last week, the Tour of Clydeside series of races took place and the
first race in the series, was the Kilbarchan Klassic, staged on the cycle
track, going out towards the Collegiate Church and returning, a distance of
5.5 miles. There were a number of local runners and there was a good win for
Leanne Hamilton, who was first women to finish , time 34minutes 56 seconds.
Some athletes did all 4 races in the series, 4 races in 5 days, with best
local performances by Gordon Gallacher ahead of Robert Allison and Andy
Clugston with Siobhan Inglis going well for the ladies.
