Kilbarchan Athletic Club competed in the Scottish Young Athletes League
Final at Grangemough last weekend and although missing out on qualifying for
the UK Finals, still provided some top performances.
Outstanding was Callum Matthews in the under 17s age group who was a
convincing winner of the 1500 metres (4.09.41) and also the 1500m
Steeplechase (4.41.97) and in the same age group, Gavin McArdle led from the
start to win the 3000 metres by a distance, time 9.21.11 while in the
Hammer, Billy Russell was 3rd (27.77m).
For the under 17 girls, Sarah Dempsey won the 800metres (2.18.27) and Mia
Shepherd won Silver in the Hammer with a club record 37.16m and Bronze in
the Discus (17.92m) while Chelsie Macdougall won Bronze in the Triple Jump
(9.16m).
For the under 15 girls, Victoria Cleer was in top form, winning the
75mHurdles (12.09s) and was 2nd in the High Jump (1.45m). Kerry MacAngus won
the 800m (2.25.92), Laura Stark was 2nd in the 1500metres (4.56.84) with
Emma Kelly winning the B race (5.0579) and Erin Gilchrist was 3rd in the
Javelin (24.65m).
For the under 15 age group boys, Ewan Johnston won 2 silvers, for the
100metres ( 12.18s) and the Long Jump (5.29m). and there were 3rd places and
Bronze medals for Euan Trout in the 1500m (4.25.59) and Keir Carmichael in
the 80m Hurdles (12.59s).
