| There were some fine performances by Kilbarchan athletes at the 3rd meeting of the Scottish Indoor League at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. For the under 20 women, Sarah Glenny dominated the sprints, winning the 60 metres in 8.37s and the 200m in 27.5s while Judith McNicol won the 60m Hurdles in 10.08 seconds as well as getting 2nd in the Shot and 3rd in the Long Jump to ensure qualification for the Finals in March.
At the other end of the spectrum, the under 11 boys also qualified for the Scottish finals with Jonathon Gibson winning the 60m in 9.56s and the Standing Long Jump clearing 1.91m.
Under 20 men missed out despite some fine efforts. Blair Crawford won the 400n in a personal best of 50.3 seconds and was also 2nd in the 200m, while Andrew Cunningham won the Shot with 12.60m and James Quinn was 2nd in the 60m. Keir Carmichael was a notable performer in the under 15s category, winning the Ling Jump with a PB of 5.02 m while in the same age group, Ewan Johnstone was 2nd in the High Jump and Shot. Kilbarchan athletes performed with distinction at the McCains Challenge Cross Country meeting at Antrim at the weekend. Callum Matthews had his biggest success to date, winning the under 17s race against top UK opposition and Euan Gillham confirmed his potential as a top prospect for the future by winning the under 15 boys race by a distance. Tom Murray ran well for 8th place in the same race and Conor Thomson had a fine run for 7th in the under 13 boys race.
For the girls, Laura Stark was second in the under 13 girls race and with Rona Tytler 9th and Rebecca Craig 12th, the Kilbarchan club were 2nd team while in the under 15 girls race, Gwen Gillham was 6th.
Also at the weekend, a number of local athletes competed in the Scottish Open at the Kelvin Hall. Blair Crawford produced a fast 400m , time 49.63seconds and in the 200m Tony Daffurn ran a useful 22.91s while in the same event, Blair Crawford ran 23.14s and James Quinn 23.39s Arthur M Smith Monday 23rd January 2012 |
