Press Releases - Monday 27th September 2010

The 34th running of the George Cummings relay, sponsored by the Bell Group UK, was a glory day for Kilbarchan Athletic Club's women's teams

The Trust Inn Trophy had never been won by the local club but this year they did it in style. Lead off runner Elspeth Curran, smashed the long standing course record with a time of 14 minutes 7 seconds, giving a lead that was maintained to the end with fine runs by Natalie Sharp and Kerry Lang and the team time of 45minutes 1 second also smashed the previous record.

There was also a terrific run from the B team of Christina Rankin, Nynke Mulholland and Leanne Hamilton with Leanne grabbing an outstanding 2nd team place in a dramatic finish. And the Veteran women's team of Anji McGuinness, Jackie Campbell and Wanda Phillips did well to finish 2nd in their Category.

The Men's race for the George Cummings Trophy, was won by Shettleston Harriers for Inverclyde AC and Kilbarchan were 3rd with a team of Conor McNulty, Derek Hawkins, Robert Quinn and Paul Leck. Derek ran the fastest lap of the day of 12 minutes 23 seconds, just 5 seconds outside the record. The Kilbarchan Veteran Men won their category with a sttrong running quartet including James Snodgrass, Gordon Tenney, Jim Ferguson, and John McMillan.

Altogether 5 Women's teams and 6 Men's teams represented the club and there was great support from members and friends who marshalled the course, supplied excellent catering and assisted in various other ways.

Many thanks again to the sponsors, the Bell Group UK and to St Andrews Ambulance and various authorities whose cooperation ensured the continuing success of this event/
