Congratulations to our Triple Jumpers selected for the Celtic Cup
competition next week at Grangemouth ..
David Watson selected for the Scottish team ..
Cameron Clark selected for the Scottish Development team ..
Also
to Craig Fleming (Harrow) who competes for Kilbarchan in the
Scottish men's League.
Cameron Clark,
who on Saturday won the Scottish Schools Triple Jump title with a
Kilbarchan under 20s club record of 14.31m, on Sunday added the
national under 20s Championship with another fine leap of 14.18m. The
14.31m effort is only 9cm short of the qualifying distance for the
Commonwealth Youth Games.
Cameron’s coach David Watson, competed as a Guest in the same
event and David smashed his own club record with a superb effort
measured at 14.65m.
Holly Belch,
who had won the Schools 100mHurdles and 400m Hurdles in the previous 2
days, completed a fine weekend by winning the under 20s 100m Hurdles
title, setting a Personal best with the fine time of 14.63seconds.
Lauren Boyd
made the journey from Corby worth while by winning the under 20s Shot
setting a Kilbarchan club record of 11.18m and Lauren also won two
Bronzes, in the Javelin and the Long Jump.
Martin Lipton,
who is emerging as one of Britain’s top 400m Hurdlers, won the under
20s title in 54.03 seconds. Craig Fleming, who competes 1st
Claim for Harrow, was in outstanding form, winning the under 23s 200m
in 21.42 seconds and also the 100m in 10.70s.
In
the under 20s 800m, Andrew Gibson was pipped at the post after
a tactical battle and there was also Silver for Paul Leck in
the 1500m.
There was a superb Bronze medal for 17 year old Natalie Sharp
in a high quality under 20s 1500m, setting a club under 20s record of
4minutes 33.35seconds.
Claire Gibson
travelled to Watford again at the weekend where she competed in the
British Milers Club 800m. It was another quality run, timed at 2
minutes 4.76 seconds and Claire is running consistently to this
standard. She just needs to take the next step to break into the very
top of the UK 800m running.
Away from the track, the Road runners have been busy and at the Skye ½
marathon it was yet another win for Paul Arcari. The course is
longer than the standard ½ marathon 13.1 miles, measuring 13.8 miles
and hilly as well, which makes his time of 72 minutes 33 seconds very
impressive.
Another winner on the roads was Michael Finlay who won the
Lochwinnoch Road Race n 35 minutes 50 seconds while at the Vale of
Leven Polaroid 10K Road Race, Tom Anderson was again the winner
of the over 50s award.
Last week, at the Rouken Glen 10K, Leanne Hamilton was in fine
form, winning the Women's race for the second year running, in 38
minutes 15 seconds, a good time over a difficult course.
Congratulations to all those who ran in the Sultans race last night.

Report by Arthur Smith ....
There
were some outstanding performances by local young athletes at the
Scottish Schools Track and Field Championships at Grangemouth at the
weekend.
14
year old David Kerr, who attends Paisley Grammar School sits at
the top of the Scottish rankings, and 3rd in the UK after
his outstanding win in the under 15 boys 400m in a time of 52.15
seconds, a time which destroyed the Kilbarchan club record that has
stood for 20 years, David was also 2nd in the 100m in a
fast 11.7 seconds.
Sally Webster
Cameron Clark,
a pupil at Garnock Academy, won the Triple Jump with a splendid effort

Watson, ranking him no 1 in Scotland and 9th in the UK.
Cameron was also 2nd in the Long Jump with an excellent
6.38m effort.
One
of the most remarkable events was the under 15 girls 75m Hurdles in
which Hazel Ross from Park Mains School finished 3rd
in a Kilbarchan club record of 11.45 seconds, the result being
remarkable in that the first 3 girls ran times which rank them in the
top six in Britain. Hazel also just lost out in the 100m, being given
3rd place with the first three all given the same time of
12.7 seconds.
Holly Belch,
a 6th year pupil at Glasgow Academy, had a double success,
winning the 100m Hurdles in 15.41s and the 400m Hurdles in 65.01s.

in the Hammer with 46.47m. In the under 15 boys Shot, Andrew
Cunningham, Gryffe HS, was a clear winner with a fine 12.61m and
Andrew was also 3rd in the Long Jump with a leap of 5.21m..
Other Silver medallists included Jamie Milton, St Andrews
Academy with a PB of 14.30s for the under 17 boys 100m Hurdles;
Graham Evans , Garnock Academy, with a PB of 4 minutes 53.63s for
the under 15 boys 1500m steeplechase; Christina Rankin,

Gillies, Park Mains HS in the under 15 girls 800m, with a PB of
2.24.64 in her heat.
There were also Bronze medals for Jack Lochans, Paisley GS, who
won two, in the 80m Hurdles in 13.12s and the Triple ump with a PB of
10.81m. Also for Scott MacAulay, Park Mains HS, in the under

Kilbarchan Club record.
Report
of previous week by Arthur Smith ....
Three
young athletes from Kilbarchan Athletic Club, won Silver medals at
National Championships at the weekend.
Andrew Cunningham,
who attends Gryffe High School, won his medal by finishing in 2nd
place in the Scottish Schools under 15 boys Pentathlon Championships and
was particularly please to produce Personal Best performance in 4 of the
5 events. His Shot effort of 12.88m, puts him at the top of the Scottish
rankings this year and his other PBs were 200m 25.2s, 800m 2.26,
80mHurdles 14.6s. A good Long Jump of 5.39m helped towards a total of
2480 points and that coveted Silver medal.
In
conjunction with the Schools Pentathlon Championships at Grangemouth,
the Scottish 3000m Championships for under 17 and under 20 athletes,
were also staged.
Elspeth Curran
produced a Personal best of 10.23.82 to win Silver in the under 20
womens race and there was also an excellent Silver for Callum Hawkins
in the under 17 men’s race in a time of 9.06.11.
On
the roads, Paul Arcari was winning again, this time the Stranraer
½ marathon in 71.17 and Robin Scott kept up his recent fine form
to win the over 60s award at Stranraer, in 1hour 30 min 56 seconds.
There
are also a number of midweek events on just now and last week, Claire
Gibson travelled to London to compete in the prestigious St Mary’s
meeting where she produced another excellent run to finish 2nd
in 2.04.48s. And at the Dumbarton Polaroid 10K last week, Tom
Anderson continued his recent resurgence in form, winning the over
50s award in the good time of 35.46. .
Last
weekend in Vancouver, Canada, Kerry Lang competed in the World
Triathlon Championships and she finished 3rd Brit in 30th
place overall. Unfortunately for Kerry, it looks like Britain are only
going to be allocated 2 places in the Woman’s team for the Beijing
Olympics
Michael Finlay's report of his Lochwinnoch race added
to
Reports Page.
Congratulations
to those who ran the Lochwinnoch 6mile race on Saturday 14 June 2008.
Well done to Michael Finlay who won the race and to
Mick McGinley who was 3rd.
Congratulations to Paul Arcari who won the
Skye Half Marathon (13.8miles) today in 1hr 12mins 33secs and to
Stevie Hands who came 7th in 1hr 29mins 38secs.
Two
Kilbarchan club records were smashed at the Young Athletes League
Division One meeting at Linwood last weekend and 14 year old David
Kerr was involved in both.
David, who
attends Paisley Grammar School, just 2 days earlier had won the
Renfrewshire Schools 200m and 400m, won the same 2 events at the
League match. Against top class opposition, he smashed the 9 year old
club record for the 200m, with a time of 23.57 seconds, which places
him top of the Scottish rankings. David also won the 400m in
54.97 s and finally anchored the 4x400m relay team to victory in what
was another new club record. The quartet of James Quinn, Callum
Macleod, Eric Conway and David, produced a time of 3.48.28s,
which reduced the old record by an amazing 10 seconds.
At
the end of the day, Kilbarchan finished in third place behind
Edinburgh Athletic Club and Giffnock North, taking another step
towards the Scottish final later in the year.
There were several other top performances and also in the under 15
boys category. James Quinn won the 100m (12.06s) and Andrew
Cunningham the Shot (12.45m). In the under 13s age group, Derek
Colquhoun won the 100m in13.36 seconds and Duncan Webb won
the Shot with 8.88m. For the girls, the top performer was Hazel
Ross with three 2nd places in the u15 age group, the
100m in 12.7s, a Personal best, another PB in the Long Jump with 4.96m
and 11.59s for the 75mHurdles which is just outside her own club
record.
Kilbarchan Athletic Club also had 4 athletes at the prestigious
British Milers meeting in Manchester at the weekend. Claire Gibson
ran her 2nd best ever time for the 800m, stopping the watch
at 2.04.11. In the Men's 800m, Andrew Gibson recorded 1.54.26
and in the 1500m, Ross Toole was perhaps disappointed with his
time of 3.56.25, while Conor McNulty ran a PB of 14.42.15 for
the 5000m.
On
the Roads, it was that man again as Paul Arcari won the
Haddington 5 mile Road Race in 24 minutes 43 seconds and at last
week’s Polaroid 10K at Clydebank, Tom Hearle was first in the
over 40 category in 32.48 and Tom Anderson first in the M50
category in a time of 35.20.

Report by Arthur Smith ....
It was the trial for the GB
team for the Olympic Games at the World Cup Triathlon competition in
Madrid at the weekend and there was a great effort from Kerry Lang
from Elderslie, who finished 3rd Brit and still has a
chance of being selected for Beijing. After a good swim, Kerry was
caught out when a breakaway group got away on the bike ride. However
she finished strongly at the end of the 10K road run to beat all her
other rivals. Two athletes will definitely go to Beijing but the
number of places per country, is restricted. A third place being
available will depend on overall performances by other countries in
the next World Cup event. So far,GB has established a good rating and
so Kerry is still hopeful of selection
Much more local, was the
second meeting of the Central and South of Scotland League at
Grangemouth at the weekend and Kilbarchan Athletic Club, having won
the first meeting 3 weeks ago, convincingly won the Sundays event and
with one more meeting in August, are within touching distance of
retaining the Trophy which they won for the first time last year.
Perhaps the top performance
came from Lauren Boyd, who travelled up from Corby to represent
the club. Lauren won the Shot (10.16m), Javelin (30.90m), Long Jump
(4.76m) and was part of the winning Kilbarchan 4x100m relay team.
Jamie Milton had an
outstanding day with individual treble success in the under 17 boys
age group.. Jamie won the 100m Hurdles, close to his best with
14.8seconds, Javelin with a PB of 34.08m and also the Triple Jump
(10.86m)..Jack Lochans, competing in the under 15 age group,
won the Long Jump (4.83m) and the 80m Hurdles (13.5s) while David
Kerr ran a fast 24.2s into a strong headwind, to win the 200m and
he also anchored the relay team to victory.
Holly Belch was the
class act in the Women's 100m Hurdles, with a time of 16.8s against a
gale, and was also fastest in the 200m at 27.1seconds. Holly
teamed up with Lauren Boyd, Emma Pettigrew and Michelle Bell to
win the women's relay by a distance.
Hazel Ross made a case
for being the top under 15 Hurdler in Scotland, beating all her
rivals, the time of 12.1s, highlighting the difficult wind conditions.
And also for the under 15s, Elaine Eadie was an easy winner if
the 1500m. Nile McMillan won the under 17s High Jump and in
the same age group, Judith McNicol and Debbie Henderson were
the best by far in the 80m Hurdles.
In the younger age groups,
under 13 boys Ryan Richards and Derek Colquhoun show sprint
potential and Derek also won the High Jump clearing 1.40m. In the same
age group, Christopher McStay shows all round potential with 3rd
places in the Hurdles and 1500m.
And last week, at the Scottish
Civil Service Championships, Alan McMillan won Shot (8.74m) and
Javelin (34.70m) events.
On the Roads at the weekend,
it was that man Paul Arcari again, this time winning the
Campbeltown ½ Marathon in 71.39 while Robin Scott won the over
60s age group , timed at 90.17. Also at Campbeltown, Calum Morrison
won the 10K Road race in 34.17.
Still on the Roads and
Hayley Haining competed in the London BUPA 10K Road Race on
Monday. The race was run in a downpour but Hayley ran well to finish 6th
in 33.56
Hayley Haining was 6th in the London BUPA 10K Road Race on
Monday 26 May , in pouring rain in a time of 33mins 56secs..
Kilbarchan WON the 2nd CaSSLe Division meeting at Grangemouth
yesterday and are now well clear at the top of the league with one
meeting to go.
Around
SIXTY club members took part .. + managers etc, supporters.
Some
top class results and a load of winners and PBs here, including from
our veteran athletes who won valuable points did a great job in
supporting the team effort.
Paul Arcari WON again, this time the Campbeltown/Mull of Kintyre
1/2 marathon in 1hr 11mins 39secs. Robin Scott 1st V60 in 1
hr 30mins 17secs details not available yet but at least 2 other lady
club members running.
And
Calum Morrison WON the Campbletown 10K Road race, 34mins 37secs
Kilbarchan Athletic Club had
three athletes competing at the Loughborough International meeting last
weekend and all performed well against top class opposition.
24 year old David Watson,
a former pupil at Gleniffer High School, won his first Scotland vest,
competing in the Triple Jump where he finished in 6th place with an
outdoor best performance of 14.52m, just 3 cm short of his own club
record that was performed indoors.
Martin Lipton, 19, a
former pupil at St Andrews Academy got a late call up for the GB Junior
team at Loughborough and was 5th in the 400metres Hurdles,
close to his best with a time of 53.81 seconds.
Scottish 800m Champion 25 year
old Claire Gibson, a former pupil of Johnstone High School, was
unlucky not to be selected for the Scottish team for the International
event. The 25 year old showed her class by winning a quality 800m event
in 2 minutes 5.28 seconds
Also last weekend, the Scottish
Women's League second meeting, took place at Grangemouth and the
Scottish Men's League was staged at Meadowbank.
In the Women's League, with
Kilbarchan athletes competing for Team West, Natalie Sharp won
the Senior 1500metres in 4.42.00. There was also a fine Hurdles run from
Hazel Ross who won the under 15 girls 75m Hurdles B race in 11.64
seconds, which was faster than the winner on the A race. Hazel also won
the B Long Jump with a Personal Best of 4.91m. Holly Belch was 2nd
in the 400m Hurdles and in the under 17 Hurdles events, Judith
McNicol was 2nd in the 80m Hurdles and also in the 300m
Hurdles. Team West finished 4th on the day.
At the Men's League, Kilbarchan
had three winners. Conor McNulty won the 3000m Steeplechase by a
distance, in 9.39.87 and Cameron Clark won the Triple Jump with
13.15m. Andrew Gibson, last week’s Scottish Closed 1500m winner,
won the closest race of the day, the 400m in 50.61 seconds, first and
second being given the same time and a photograph deciding the winner..
There were also good places for
Craig Stewart 2nd in the 200m in 23.35s, Scot
Hawkins 2nd in the 1500m in 4.08.50, Cameron Clark
2nd in the Long Jump with 6.33m and Gary Stevenson 3rd
in the 400m Hurdles in 62.20s. Kilbarchan finished 4th in the
Division 2 competition, missing too many top athletes to make a serious
challenge for promotion.
On the roads, Paul Arcari
was a winner yet again. Paul is really in top form this summer and his
latest victory was at the Loch Leven ½ marathon, which he won in the
good time of 68.01. There was also a good effort from Hannah Waugh, who
was 3rd Senior Woman in 89.05.
It was the Womens 10K in Glasgow
at the weekend, with over 10 thousand finishers and a large number of
local runners took part in the race around the area of Bellahouston and
Pollok Parks. Around 20 Kilbarchan club runners took part with an
excellent run from Leanne Hamilton who was 21st, 8th
Scot, 37.44 and also in the top 100 was Lorraine Gribben, 59th
in 42.28 .
