Coming events We are now into the winter season with the popular relays and there should be plenty of competition for road runners, XC runners, indoor track etc. We will be involved in the Indoor League again this winter, age groups up to under 20s. Younger athletes will tend to be directed by their coaches regarding suitable competition and if you think about doing some more, eg extra open graded meetings, or if you have something extra at school or college, talk to your coach about it. Around Christmas, we have a lot of club races and we will be looking for a big support from club members for these events.
Clothing/Club kit Club Tracksuits, excellent value now only £25- £30. Also, club long sleeved white t shirts £6, tracksters at £16, vests £12, crop tops £15, ladies shorts £10. Available from Arthur.
At all times, wear appropriate clothing and keep warm. Think about what you wear for training and for racing, eg T shirts, long sleeved in very cold weather when hats and gloves should also be considered. Have you got a club vest? Remember that in competition you should always wear club colours ie vest or crop top though crop tops are definitely not advised in very cold weather.
Good, properly fitting footwear is also important. Retail outlets are limited but Achilles Heel in Great Western Road near Byres Rd and Run 4 It in Couper St, Townhead are recommended. Training sessions These continue as before at Johnstone High School and Linwood Track. See Membership Card where standard training ours are detailed but coaches may also arrange some different times and venues. Coaching Younger athletes usually have a specific coach as do some Seniors. Some athletes might work with different coaches for different disciplines. If you want to know more, if you have questions, ask your coach. Remember your coach can only advise and it is up to the athlete; so talk to your coach and keep him/her informed. With the numbers in the club, we are needing more people to get involved in coaching. If interested, contact Robert Hawkins.
SAFETY Remember, especially for the dark nights, it is strongly advised that you DO NOT wear dark clothing, When running on the roads, wear white or bright reflective clothing so that car drivers can see you. To ignore this advice will endanger yourself and other road users..
At all times, when running on roads, be aware of the traffic, take care when crossing the road .. PLEASE TAKE CARE. When running from Johnstone High School, always run in organised groups and make sure that others know where you are going. Report any incidents to Derek Parker or any committee member. Also please take care at the track and be aware of other people using not just the track itself but also the inside field area where throwing groups are liable to be training. PLEASE TAKE CARE and be responsible.
Diet Although we are now approaching winter, remember the importance of liquids, water or eg isotonic drinks. Think about what you eat and drink, and when. After training, take some carbohydrate preferably within 30 minutes to allow your system to recover properly. Social Club Winter Party Disco has been arranged for Sat 8th December, Kilbarchan Bowling Club. This is always a good night and enjoyed by all. Ticket will be on sale soon. Recent results These have been summarised on a regular basis and information sent out by email. Volunteers, Parents/Friends We still want to encourage more parents to get involved with the club in some capacity. Have you any special expertise that might be of benefit to the club? Could you help to officiate or assist coaches?
There are a lot of people who assist in all sorts of ways, in the success of the club and thanks to them all. Members and friends will be more aware of for example, various club coaches, who put in a lot of time and effort, also various people involved in admin etc. Mention again of our officials, including Cath Pender, Margaret Ann MacLachlan, Jim and Elaine Green, Stewart McLay, Pam and Magnus Ross, Max, Jason,Stuart Sharp and others Kenny Milton, Dave Webster, Lorraine Sharp, Mike Belch and others, who were so willing to help which was greatly appreciated.
Any more helpers out there? Officials Training courses (not onerous), are available. Also coaching courses available.
