Hammerama Three – Craigswood, Livingston
Hammerama Three for 2011 was held at the new athletics facility at Xcite Craigswood, Livinston on Saturday 23 July 2011. On a day of brilliant sunshine several of the performances matched the weather, the new stadium and the surrounding well stocked greenland.
In the first event of the day, Kirsty Costello (Kilbarchan) the youngest member of “Scotland’s Got Talent” Bronze Group put in a technical performance far beyond her years and was rewarded with a personal best of 24.43 metres with the 2kg implement. This event was dominated by Kilbarchan and Grangemouth youngsters and is a true reflection of the hard work being carried out by coaches Jim Green, Karen Costello and Angie Kirkwood.

Clubmark Success for Kilbarchan AAC
Kilbarchan AAC has recently achieved national recognition with the news that they have obtained scottishathletics Clubmark. The Clubmark programme recognises clubs who meet national standards of practice and who provide a safe and effective structure for members.
Allison Simpson West Regional Development Manager, said, “scottishathletics are delighted to recognise and commend the efforts of Kilbarchan AAC who have demonstrated their commitment to delivering an effective club structure. They have produced a comprehensive development plan which will provide a framework and focus in taking the club forward. The challenge now for the club is to bring the plan to life. My congratulations to the Clubmark working group John Rodger, Jim Greene, Mike Belch, Jason Pender and Jim Goudie. Also to the club management, coaches and officials within the club for their hard work and commitment over the years. Kilbarchan AAC truly is a well organised and proactive club.”
Kilbarchan AAC representative John Rodger said “much of the organisation, processes and procedures required of Clubmark were already in place within the club but the application allow us to identify where we needed to improve. The challenge for the future is to implement our development plan which will be key to our success in the years to come”.
Kilbarchan AAC were presented with their award by Professor Frank W Dick at the recent Glasgowlife National Senior Championships held at Scostoun (pictured above).

Congratulations to Kilbarchan athletes Russell Mountford and Sarah Glenny who represented the Scottish Schools Team at the School's International Athletics Board match in Cardiff on Saturday 16th July 2011.
Competing against the top schools athletes from England, Ireland and Wales. Russell won the silver medal in the 1500 Steeplechase, the fastest Scot but had to settle for silver despite a tremendous run and pushing for gold right up until the very last water jump.
Sarah also the fastest Scot was fourth in the 300m in a seasons best time, running in bizarre weather which included rain and very strong winds quickly followed by sunshine.
For both athletes this was the second year running that they have been selected for the Under 17 Schools International Match.

After the race Garry said “I was glad that much of the course was through the forest as it was tough in the heat when we were out of the shade. I didn’t expect so many flat bits on an uphill course but it was good for me because I caught quite a few so I’m looking forward to trying to make the team for the World’s now as that’s an up and down course.”
