Renfrewshire Star Track Athletics Summer Programme

This summer programme is being run by the Active Schools in partnership with Kilbarchan Athletic Club.

Each child will receive specialist athletics training each day from experienced coaching staff in running, jumping and throwing and will also receive a goody bag . Please ensure your child wears appropriate clothing and has a packed lunch and plenty of water

Andrew Costello threw a pb of over 45 meters with his 3k hammer to take the group D gold and Heather Fawcett threw a pb of over 39 meters with her 2k hammer to take group D silver!

Congratulations to Jennifer Rooney who finished second woman in the 5K race at Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA,

in a time of 21 minutes 02 seconds.
 
This was a personal best by 38 seconds and Jennifer was ninth overall and first woman in the 19 to 24 age group in the event which had 185 finishers.
 
The temperature was 11 degrees so it seems just as cold in that part of the USA as it has been over here.

KILBARCHAN FARE POORLY IN THE CSSAL LEAGUE OPENING MATCH

The CSSAL results from 12th May at Wishaw have emerged. There was a very tight spread of results, but unfortunately, Kilbarchan finished 8th.

However this disguises some excellent performances on the day. In their age categories, the senior men were 2nd, the Masters, Senior and U17 Women were all 3rd, but the other age groups were not able to sustain this level unfortunately.

Individually the standout performances were Callum Hawkins and Paul Leck in the 3000m Senior Men, winning by a massive margin of more than 45 seconds - a huge PB for Paul as well. Elsewhere PB for David Kerr in the 400m and good wins for Billy Russell in the Triple Jump and B 100m. There were a number of other good wins for Kilbarchan athletes listed below. We will hope for better in the next two matches.

Claire Gibson was close to her best in the 1500m,at the Loughborough International .. 4.16.83

Gavin McArdle broke a long standing u17s club record at the Stretford BMC meeting last week, 3000m in 8.32.52

Scottish Women's League also at the weekend, at Aberdeen, Kilbarchan Athletes representing Team West.
Holly Belch the star of the show winning the 100m 12.51, 200m 25.69 and 3rd in the 100mHurdles 15.41

Elspeth Curran 1st lady in the Strathclyde Park 5K, 16.50, which is 55sec better than the previous best.

A good day for Kilbarchan AAC at the second Hammerama competition of the year with three athletes achieving PB’s

with one in two competitions.

Sadly Alan Bertram MBE founder of the Hammerama and mentor for Scottish Athletics Hammer Development Group passed away on Saturday afternoon. He will be missed by all who came in contact with him.

Kilbarchan triumphed by a whopping 50 points over reigning champions Cental.

Congratulations to Claire Gibson who has been selected to run for Scotland in the 1500 metres event at the Loughborough international this weekend against British Universities, England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
 
And also to Martin Lipton who has been included in the Scottish 4 x 400 metres relay pool following his excellent run of 48.34 seconds in the 400 metres race at the British League meeting at Cardiff last weekend.

Details of a race on the Gleniffer Braes...

Accord Hospice are holding a 5 mile run within the grounds of Gleniffer Braes Country Park on Sunday 19^th May at 10am. Entry fee is £15 and this includes transport from Prolife Gym. It’s all being run with the support of Margaret Moore of Good2Run in Paisley who has organised quite a few of our events, and we are hoping that it will be an enjoyable event for everyone taking part.

TRAINING SESSIONS:
 
For some time it has been our practice at Kilbarchan Athletic Club to put the Monday night fartlek sessions on the club web site in advance.
 
This is (1) to provide athletes with information in advance as to the content of the training programme; (2) to enable those using Garmins to pre-programme their watches to the appropriate time/distance settings; (3) to enable those training from home or from gymnasia to do the sessions at a time suitable to their own circumstances; and (4) to allow athletes to adapt the sessions to exercise bike, ski-machine, cycle-machine, treadmill and swimming pool sessions during rehabilitation or inclement weather phases.
 
I know reliably that our sessions are accessed and used by other clubs and their athletes visiting the KAAC web site.
 
Consequently, I am suggesting that we no longer put KAAC sessions into the public domain, otherwise this puts our athletes at a disadvantage if/when rival competitors/clubs know what we are doing and can use our training programme to their own benefit.
 
This has assumed a major dimension during recent weeks with the approach of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year and the requisite acquisition of qualifying times for that event.
 
We have a number of athletes at KAAC who are in contention for Games places and whose training programmes (or some of the programmes) can be utilised by rivals for places in the Scottish CG team.
 
It seems illogical, therefore, that we should be making our programme known to our members' rivals.
 
This is a bit like a football team announcing publicly to their opponents what training they do or what strategies they will employ in and during the run-up to major tournaments.
 
I am proposing, therefore, that we just circulate our training information to our own members or Friends of Kilbarchan AAC (eg former members, club benefactors past and present etc).
 
This would be done by drawing up an e-mail list of people wishing to know the sessions in advance or simply by making the information available by phone or word of mouth at club training sessions.
 
The change would still mean that those wishing for details about the sessions would still have access to that information in advance.
 
The only thing different would be our sessions would be taken from the public domain and restricted to 'in-house' circulation.
 
For the above reasons, I also propose we no longer provide website information in retrospect about the Thursday track sessions.

FAREWELL AND THANKS, RICHARD:
 
Richard Beal, who has been a loyal and faithful member of Kilbarchan AAC, is leaving us after five years.
 
Richard is moving out of our area to live in Troon. So Monday 22nd April 2013, is likely to his last session with us.
 
KAAC in general, and the road-running group in particular, wish to thank Richard for all his fine work in posting the club training sessions on the website, supervising sessions and carrying the watch to time the repetitions.
 
Hopefully, we shall see him from time to time at some of our training sessions if and when he can manage along.
 
We wish you all the best, Richard.
 
May all your road-running miles be joyful and light of foot and may our paths cross again from time to time. Happy trails!!

3000 Metres races at the Dunren Open Graded Meetings at Linwood Sports Complex

which are being held on the evenings of Wednesdays 24th April, 29th May, 26th June, 31st July and
21st August 2013

The 3000 Metres is open to all in age group Under 15 and older.

The 3000 metres races will start at 6.40pm and entries are required in advance closing on the Monday prior to the meeting.

Entries for the OGM on 24th April close next Monday 22nd April 2013.

Kilbarchan AAC Club Hill Race Championship .. 5.5 mile Cornalees Hill race - Wednesday 15th May at 7.30pm.

There will also be a 1/2mile uphill only race for juniors starting at 7.15pm.
Registration is in Greenock Glenpark Orangefield clubhouse from 5.45pm to 6.45pm (latecomers can register at the start)
The start is at Woodstock road at Pennyfern in Greenock, 10 minute jog from the clubhouse. It is a marked route to Hillside Hill (the hill above the Cornalees visitor centre) and back again. Changing and showers available for Men & Women in the Orangefield Clubhouse. (Entry £2 which includes Tea & Coffee & Cakes in Clubhouse afterwards/ juniors free)
