Results from the U20 / U23 National Competition at Grangemouth on Sunday 13th June 2010

More photos on Flickr (with more to come asap)

U20w 100m sph  - Hazel Ross

U23w 100m sph - Holly Belch

U20w 400m hurdles  - Holly Belch

U20m 400m hurdles - Conor Henderson

U23m 400m hurdles - Martin Lipton

We missed out on the 110m sprint hurdles for the U20 & U23 men and the 400m hurdles for the U20 women.

Still, 5 out of 8’s not bad!

Hazel Ross has coped well with the transition from U17 to U20 hurdle height and spacing and did well in wining the U20 100m sprint hurdle event.

Holly Belch managed to win a double gold taking the U23 women’s 100m sprint hurdles and the 400m hurdle event.

Conor Henderson continues to enthral with his style and speed over his chosen U20 400m hurdle distance

Martin Lipton beat the City of Glasgow international U23 400m hurdler into second place to lift the gold medal, a feat which he reproduced to win a bronze medal in the England U23 National Championships in Bedford this weekend. Well done Martin. Martin also managed a respectable 22.74secs for his U23 men’s 200m coming in 4th. .

Natalie Sharp and Judy McNicol picked up bronze medals for their 3rd places in the U20 800m. Natalie running a little off her best personal best while still carrying an injury to her foot and Judy in the U20 triple jump respectively.

Other competitors narrowly missing medals were:-

Stephen Fleming, U20 men 800m final  - 4th

Elspeth Curan, U23 women 1500m final - 4th

Claire McNicol, U23 400m final -  5th

Judith McNicol, U20 100m sph final - 5th (completing a triumvirate of Kilbarchan AAC athletes

in the U20 / U23 women’s 100m sph final).

Sally Webster, U20 women’s hammer final - 6th

Graham Evans, U20 men 1500m final - 8th

It was great to see the enthusiasm and grit being displayed by all the Kilbarchan junior relay teams running at the U20 / U23 National Championships. Well done to every team that entered, especially well done to the four teams that reached their finals and congratulations to the U15 boys 3 x 800m team and U17men 4 x 400m relay teams for their bronze medal achievements.

The U13girl’s 3 x 800m team narrowly missed out on a bronze medal position and came a very respectable 4th in the final with a time faster in the final than the time posted for wining their heat.

The U15 girls produced two 3 x 800m teams; both ran well with the U15 girl’s ‘A’ team coming 5th in the final

Kilbarchan AAC managed to field two teams for the U13 boys 3 x 800m relay, the ‘B’ team missing the 7.59.00 which would have seen them in the final with the ‘A’ team.

Kilbarchan AAC also managed to field two teams of U15 boys for the 3 x 800m relay. The U15 boys ‘A’ team secured their place in the final by coasting to a win in their heat and wining the bronze medal in the final, the ‘B’ team missing out on the opportunity to join the ‘A’ Team in the final.

Congratulations and thank you to the relay team managers for their hard work in ensuring the teams were there in the first place to experience the excitement and successes of National Championships.

Thanks to Mike Belch for the information and photos
