Kilbarchan Amateur Athletic Club
is based in the county of Renfrewshire approx. 12 miles south west of
Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Its training venues are easily
accessible from the M8 motorway via junction 29 west bound onto the A737
dual carriageway (next to Glasgow International Airport).
The Club was formed in 1974, though there had been a previous club,
going back to 1924. Club colours are gold vest with a broad black
horizontal chest band. Although originating in the picturesque village
of Kilbarchan, population around 5000, the Club's main training bases
are now in the neighbouring towns of Johnstone and Linwood, the latter
having an all weather track adjacent to its Sports Centre.
The club membership comes from Renfrewshire and the surrounding
counties. Now one of the top running clubs in Scotland, the club is
attracting top athletes. As well as the elite athletes, the club has a
good percentage of joggers just wanting to keep fit and the club would
like to encourage runners of all abilities from 9 to 99 years old to
come and join in our training evenings. There are a number of regular
10k and ½ marathon runners (1/2marathon times range from 65minutes to
well over 2 hours). Handy for Glasgow Airport, International travellers
are welcome to join in for a night's training in the safety of running
groups. Please contact our secretary (see below), for further details.
The club stages a number of events, including the first race of the
autumn road relay season, the George Cummings 4x2.5 mile road relay
which is run on the last Saturday of September along with a 3x2.5 ml
race for women (The Trust Inn Trophy). It also organises annual Schools
Invitation Cross Country races, Track and Field Trials, at least one
Renfrewshire AAAs Championship event as well as several club events
throughout the year.
The club has a membership of around 300 male and female of all ages and
abilities and it competes in cross-country, road running, hill running
and track and field.
