Flora London Marathon - Sunday 26 April 2009 by Robert Connell

On Friday April 24/2009 I went down to London.  I was to fly into London City Airport, but British Airways cancelled my flight and I had to fly to London Gatwick and I was very displease with British Airways for cancelling my into London City Airport.  I got into London at 13.30 to Kings Cross and went to my hotel.

I then went to Flora London Marathon Exhibition show to get my race number and to go around the show to see the stalls and to get some Flora London Marathon gear and goodies and went to the Flora London Marathon pasta party and enjoyed meeting fellow runners and getting the benefit of excellent advice from experts on a range of subjects from hydration and nutrition to last minute preparations.  I had a fantastic time at the Excel show on Friday.

On the day of, Sunday I got up at 4 o clock to get ready to go to the Marathon, I was feeling very good and look forward to it. I had breakfast and at 7 o clock I got the subway to Bank, Bank to London Bridge, London Bridge to Greenwich to get to the blue start at Blackheath.  We started the race at 9.45 I was a fantastic day and I done the first mile 10 mins and the next in 9 mimes and I got to the Cutty Sark in 57 mins, but it was hot but not as hot as 2007 London Marathon.

At 13 miles I see the top runners on the way home at the 20 mile. I was still feeling good when I got to 18 miles and at 25 miles I was still feeling fantastic, I had one mile to go and started to go for the finish, I very happy to see the  two hundred metro to go.  I had a fantastic race on the day and got a PB 4.15.35 in the challenge of completing the last ever Flora London Marathon and had a fantastic time London.

I give my thank to Kilbarchan AAC for the place in the Flora London Marathon this year and to all of club for their support of me in my training.

Your truly

Robert Connell
