| Veteran Robert Quinn rolled back the years at Bellahouston Park on Sunday when he won the 6 mile Renfrewshire County Cross Country Championship, 25 years after he first won the title at Linwood in 1984.
Robert showed that he is still a class act, dominating from the start and showing an ability to cope with the tough hills and wet, muddy conditions that none of his rivals could match, winning in 36 minutes 9 seconds, over 500 metres clear of the chasing pack.
In the Senior Womens race, Leanne Hamilton, unlike Robert, found her road running style unsuited to the conditions but still did well to finish a good 2nd, just 70 metres behind the winner Emma Rice of Inverclyde AC.
Under 13 boys is a strong event for the Kilbarchan club and their team dominated the 2 mile race with Euan Gillham winning in 12.25, with Gavin McArdle 2nd in 12.40 and Scott McLardie 4th. The under 15 boys also won the team title led by Russell Mountford who was 2nd in 12.15, supported by Callum Matthews 4th and Chris McStay 6th. Under 17 mens team were 2nd team with Thomas McDonald 6th, Gary Rankin 7th, Craig Haxton 8th and under 11 boys were 3rd team with Andrew McLean 5th, Andrew MacAngus 6th and Robert Mallinder 11th.
In the girls races, the Kilbarchan under 13s missed Gold by just 1 point, led by Gwen Gillham 2nd, well supported by Kathryn Lee 5th and Caitlin McStay 6th and there were also Silver medals for the under 11s; led by Robyn Connolly 3rd, with Rebecca Craig 5th and Stephanie McStay 7th. Good performances also gained Silver for Kirsty Harper in the under 15s race and Bronze for Elaine Eadie in the under 17s event.
