Press Releases - Monday 29th March 2010

African athletes, particularly from Kenya, dominated the World Cross Country Championships in Poland at the weekend winning all the individual and all but one of the ream medals awarded for the 4 races.

Local interest was very much in young Callum Hawkins in the Junior Men's race and the Elderslie youngster, one of the youngest in the field, had a fine run to finish in 47th place and was not only 2nd Brit but also 3rd European, time of 24 minutes 21 seconds. Callum ran a sensible race, not too fast at the start and still quite strong at the finish and the experience will stand him in good stead for next year when he will be in the same age group category. ..

Kilbarchan Athletic Club is having a Come and Try evening next Tuesday, 6th April, at Linwood Sports Centre, from 7pm, finishing around 8.45. Opportunity will be there to take part in a sprint, a middle distance event, a Throw and the Long Jump. Anyone interested should come along, buy a ticket (£2 for young athletes) at the Sports Centre reception and go round to the running track to register.

This coming weekend, the National Road Relay Championships are at Livingston with Kilbarchan Athletic Club looking to retain the Women's title they won last year and for the men's team also to get among the medals.
