Press Releases - Monday 15th February 2010

Alison Rodger was again in top form at the weekend, one of several really outstanding performances from Kilbarchan athletes.

Alison was competing in the UK Indoor Championships and World Trials at Sheffield and produced her second best ever throw of 16.02 metres to win the Championship, retaining the title which she remarkably had won last year. Also at Sheffield, there was a good Triple Jump by David Watson, 15.06m.

More locally at the weekend, the Scottish Age group Championships were at the Kelvin Hall with 2 outstanding winning performances by local athletes.

Park Mains schoolgirl Hazel Ross, demolished the club under 17s 60metres Hurdles record in the semi-final with a time of 8.84 seconds, a time that she repeated to win the final and establish her at the top of the Scottish rankings , 4th in the UK. Hazel also won Bronze in the High Jump with a 1.60m clearance.

Jack Lochans, who attends Paisley Grammar School, smashed his Personal Best in the under 17 men's High Jump with a superb 1.91m clearance, which also put him top of the Scottish rankings and 4th in the UK. There were also a Silver medal won by Andrew McLaughlan in the under 20s Shot with 13.28m and there was an under 17s club record for the Pole Vault, 2.80m by Andrew Cunningham.

The 5K park runs which take place every Saturday morning in various parts of the country, attract large numbers and last Saturday at the Edinburgh event, Ross Toole smashed the course record winning in the impressive time of 14 minutes 31 seconds. This makes it a double for Ross as he also holds the course record for the Glasgow Pollok Park run which he set a couple of months ago, 15.01. Last Saturday at Pollok Park, there was another Kilbarchan winner, Scott Hawkins in 16 minutes 19 seconds.

This weekend, the Scottish National Cross Country Championships are at Falkirk on Saturday and the second meeting of the Indoor League at the Kelvin Hall on Sunday.
