It is expected that these people should work with the existing coaches assisting them over the summer and this can be followed up by attending the Assistant Club Coach course in Glasgow in early October. The club is always looking for athletes and parents over the age of 17 who are prepared to give the club some free time in coaching.

Vacancies in all events

under 11s

sprints / hurdles

long/high/triple jumps

ADVERTISEMENT FOR OFFICIALS

If any club member or parent would also like to assist in officiating at events please contact Jason Pender. We need people to assist at meetings whether to act as assistant team managers or actually help in judging events, no special experience required as you'll work with experienced officials who will guide you along. There will be Officials courses in the Autumn as well.

STOP PRESS: Did you know that Margaret Ann MacLachlan, Pamela Ross and Jason Pender have been selected to officiate at the London 2012 Olympics. It all started when we volunteered to help out at club meetings. You too can have a future officiating in athletics. Glasgow 2014 isn't far away.

Report from CASSAL meeting - Sunday 5th June 2011 at Linwood

by David Cunningham

Kilbarchan dominated again in the second CSSAL league match at Linwood. Winning 44 events, the club finished on 1182 points, more than 200 ahead of second placed Ronhill Cambuslang. Promotion to Division 1 is not yet guaranteed but we are looking very good at this stage. There were many top class performances, notably a club record for Under 11 girls 150m for Iona Cleer (23.2s) with Bethany Craig running a fast 23.8 to win the B race, as well as winning the B string long jump and being part of the winning relay team. There was yet another Under 11 Boys' record at 600m for Andrew MacAngus (1:51.8). The Under 11 boys also equalled their own sprint relay record (63.3s). Kerry MacAngus ran a very fast 4:02.6 in the Under 13 girls' 1200m, putting her 4th in the Scottish rankings (alongside Rebecca Craig (3rd) and Laura Stark (6th)).

There was yet another clean sweep for Gillian Docherty and Janice Ross in the Masters Women's 200 metres, and they followed this up by running legs 3 and 4 of the Senior Womens' sprint relay, along with Elaine Eadie and Holly Belch, for another fine win. Nigel Muyaba performed notably well in 200m and long jump before having an unfortunate tumble on the final leg of the relay - he is bruised and scraped but still in one piece! Mark Chisholm as impressive in winning the 200m in 23.4s. The top performer on the day was Victoria Cleer, who won the Under 15 girls 75m Hurdles and High Jump and then anchored home the sprint relay for another win. The pluckiest performance however goes to Kenny Milton who did 200m, long jump and discus - all at the same time!

A great turnout of nearly 60 athletes plus many supporting coaches, officials and parents made a cold dreich day at Linwood very enjoyable indeed. Team Manager Morag Cunningham would like to thank everyone for their support and we are looking forward to the final match at Wishaw on 3rd July. If you want to take part in the final match at Wishaw, get in touch with Morag by text (07753 682686) or email (mwc@btconnect.com).

Message from Donna Matthews regarding kit ....

I was told today by the company who supply the “Club Hoodies” that due to the worldwide price increase of cotton, unfortunately the price of the hoodies will be going up very soon (probably in the next week or 2)

Might be a good idea for any members who are thinking about purchasing one, either for the first time new members or anyone needing a bigger size or replacement, to purchase it as soon as possible.

I don’t know what the prices are yet, but as the Kilbarchan AAC Club badge is now going on them that will also add to the price.

I also still have some tracksuits left at the “sale price” of £20 and Canterbury Track pants at £25 (next batch could also unfortunately be more expensive)

Due a new delivery of back packs and kit bags end of June.

Intercounties Championships Bedford - Monday 30th May 2011‏

Congratulations to Donald Petrie....

'On 19th April 2011 I managed my 1,000th run on consecutive days without missing a day. This started on the 21st July 2008 and I've managed to keep it going. I enjoy running and try to run every day anyway but have never managed this number of consecutive days before. After a couple of hundred days, Snoddy told me that he'd run for 3,760 consecutive days, so I thought I'd have a try at beating this target. The criteria for a run is that it must be at least 25 minutes or 2 1/2 miles. I try to run for at least 40 minutes a day.

I know there's a huge amount of luck in attempting to beat the target set by Snoddy's as sometimes it may not be possible to run due to illness or injury. The biggest threat to my attempt so far came 2 weeks ago when I caught a really bad cold / throat infection. I was reduced to easy 30 minute runs for 4 days, but am now getting over it.

During the 1,000 days I have run about 6,000 miles, about 80% of which was off-road. During the 1,000 days I've run approx 120 interval sessions and 120 track sessions, and have competed in 115 orienteering races, 41 road races, 18 cross-country races, 5 trail races, 3 hill races and 2 track races - a total of 184! No wonder I'm knackered!'

Congratulations to Callum Hawkins on another PB on Friday 15th April 2011

at the Mount Sac Relays in Walnut, California

14mins 11.6secs for the 5000m.  Callum is now 5th on the Scottish all time U/20 list

Congratulations to those who competed in the Men's League on Sunday 17th April 2011

Tony Daffurn was very impressive, just missing out on winning the 200m by 0.02s, winning the 'B' string high jump and running a fine first leg in our winning 4x100m relay.

Other fine performances from Jack Lochans (1st, A string high jump), Paul Leck and Stephen Fleming (2nd A and B string 1500m), Andrew Cunningham (3rd A string javelin) and Graham Evans (2nd A string 400m hurdles), but pride of place must go to Jason Pender for winning the B string 400m hurdles in fine style !!

There were other good runs from Nishant Puri and James Quinn and a good shot from Andrew Cunningham on his first outing with the full size 16lb weapon.

The sprint relay was a revelation. Tony Daffurn led off, handing level to Jack Lochans who ran a sparkling leg against fierce opposition. Four teams came into the second changeover level but out of it came James Quinn yards clear, and he handed efficiently to Nishant Puri who stormed to victory in 45.45, an excellent time and an excellent win.

On Saturday 9th April 2011 Jim Green and Karen Costello's throw session started like any other.  There was a warm up followed by some great hammer throwing (and it was dry for a change).

At the end of the session the keen little group piled into cars and headed for KFC in Greenock for a slap up lunch (courtesy of Karen - thank you very much).  Well if chicken nuggets are good enough for Usain Bolt then KFC is good enough for our throws group!

Next stop was a short crossing to the Waterfront complex for ice skating (courtesy of Jim - thank you very much too) where everyone showed off their skills on the ice.  Jim was even coaching on the ice - yes he's great at coaching skating too.

Everyone who attended had a brilliant time and would like to thank Karen and Jim once again for this great treat.
